ok ok ok. Scharger or N20 i know its been said before but i want some advice...
With a 5.0L and the follwing mods.{basically a clone cobra) gt40 intake, better heads(got get some need advice)65mm tb,exhaust, cam. Wouldnt that put you at least up to 280+hp and ???trq(idunno)...get a 50-75shot and be able to taste 315+hp(only when wanting too, overall putting less stress on the motor if used right)

With a 5.0L with.. just a Gt40 intake,65mm tb. and 6psi supercharger. wouldnt that put you upto 300+hp and ???trq(i dunno) for a lot!!! more money!!!.
I know NOS is dollar for dollar the most bang for the buck in hP. and i nkow supercharger is instang neck breaking trq adding fun. BUt i dont know which one: both are after my rebuild so it would be on a fresh motor. The s/c would cost more money overall using more gas etc. but the nos is more dangerous but i would keep it with me all the time(only on road trips, cause im not a fast and furious street ricer killer).

What to do what to do...my overall goal is to be at least a 300hp pony. it is my D/D. But i want some opinions.

i wouldnt bother with nitrous on a street car because its only used when you spray and there is always the possibility of running out. a supercharger is more money, but the power is always there. not to mention if its a roots thay sound fuggen badddd a basically stock motor with a 6pis blower will put you over 300 easily. if you want to get really fancy go turbo..then you are talkin about real power. but like speeds8erM-1 said...do your resarch before goin out and buying stuff that isnt best for your needs

I believe you'd get better mileage with a supercharger if you could stay out of it plus it's always there if you wanna stomp on it. With nitrous after a few uses you're gonna have to fill the bottle. Not sure what it cost now probably $50 or more a bottle. I think a supercharger would pay for itself in the long run and it wouldn't burn up your rings and valves. Just my opinion.

wow man, you really got some things wrong here...

Ok first off... Dollar for Dollar Blower vs. Nitrous

Initial Cost: Blower 1,800
Nitrous: 800-900 (if you do it right)

Cost per bottle refill: 40-60 bucks... so lets see... 1,800 - 900 (difference in blower and nitrous price) = 900 ... 900 / 50 (refill cost) = 18...

So, look at the math there.. after you fill the bottle 18 times then you are at and OVER the cost of a blower...

Im sure you are going to spray more than 18 bottles worth in ur cars lifetime.. hell thats one summer of hitting the track every other weekend.

Now Power: 6 psi adds about 100hp.. give or take
and Nitrous well.. its variable most of the time and depends how much your tune can handle...

Blower has power 100% of the time.. all the time.. any time.. forever

Nitrous... well, lets hope you keep extra back-up of full bottles in case you get stuck in a race on low bottle pressure.

and lastely... Reliability and MPG

When I put my vortech on my car my hwy mileage jumped from 21 mpg to a consitent 25.5 mpg... yea thats right i actually GAINED gas mileage.. go figure uh? Well, the motor is running a lot more effiecent now ya know?

As far as reliability.. there is a reason you see several factory cars come with blowers and turbos.. its because they ARE reliable...

How many cars do you see come factory with nitrous? (of course laws may prevent this but for good reason.. .high bottle pressures and explosive gasses.. you get the point, its a safety hazard.

So why do people run Nitrous? Lots of reasons, you can hook it up in a few minutes and get the extra power you need for the nights race.. OR, they are running very high compression and Nitrous is compression friendly where a blower isnt.. in your case you arent running high compression OR needing to win a race tonight.. save urself the trouble, just get a blower.. geez

Nitrous is $3 a pound at alot of places, depending on where you live. It does add up though. Where the hell do you get a blower wont burn up a piston or rings? It will crack pistons and blow rings to hell and back if the tune isnt on, not to mention the stress on the front of the crank. Blowers arent "safe" but at a higher power level, running big boost does become more controllable than spraying a HUGE shot of nitrous but thats high end race car and beyond stuff there, not the pansy 150 shot and 10 psi boost street stuff we are talking here. ;)

Saying a blower wont hurt an engine is ignorance. Nitrous does have a lot of little stuff that can go wrong that can hurt you though, stupid stuff that can go wrong but any power adder can hurt stuff. Ever seen a blower car have an injector failure?

Blowers have less headaches as far as window switches, bottle heaters, running out of nitrous, not being there if you like to beat on the car alot and it's not fast n/a. Nitrous also makes it where you need the timing retarded, not so good for when n/a, a flip chip takes care of this though.

Blowers do have belt slip problems at times, which is a major pita also.

I say fugg em both and do a turbo. :)

You don't need a power adder for 300hp.. you can achieve this with a mild N/A set up.

agreed.. :nice:

If you read his question he's only talkin about runnin 6 psi or 50 to 75hp shot of nitrous. Nobody was even talkin about a 150 shot or 10 psi of boost.
And I've run a Mustang with boost and another car with turbo, I'd take either over nitrous any day.

alright guys i see i pist some people off. But guess what, you guys know better, which is why i asked the questions. Now with some answers i figure the blower is the way for me....

But what do i need that doesnt already come with a s/c kit. probably 24lb jectors, igntion upgrade, guages, later on chip work.

will the t5 hold up to this with a gt40intake,s/c,65mmtb.

keep in mind im learning

No man, you haven't pissed a single person off at all... Trust me.

What you "need" and what people will tell you want with the sc-kit is two different things.

What you "need" is all in the kit. Period (well, with maybe one exception and thats a larger fuel pump)

If you order the basic Vortech Sc-Trim like me (5-6 psi) You get the blower, all brackets, belt, pulley, etc. and an FMU

The fmu will come caliburated to 19# injectors (stock injectors). This will be enough to support a stock engine and minor bolt-ons (ie: intake/exhaust).

People will tell you that you will want larger injectors, gauges, better ignition, etc.. BUT IS IT NOT NEEDED to run. I have ran my car with all mods in sig for over a year and half for 25,000 boosted miles with no problems. Stock injectors, no gauges, stock ignition, NO TUNE.

with just 5-6 psi the tune is not that critical. The fmu will handle your fuel just fine.

Now, moving up to just 24lb injectors isnt going to help very much... You will STILL need the fmu and at that point you will have to purchase an FMU recaliburation kit to caliburate it to 24lb injectors.. So, if you are really wanting to move up the injectors I suggest moving them up to a point where you can get rid of the fmu (ie. 38# +) and if you do that you will need a tuned burnt chip to handle the larger injectors as well as a caliburated maf.

If you really want them dont let the extra cost of gauges, fuel mods, tunes make you think the blower might be a bad idea... you still have to do the same with Nitrous if you are running the same power levels. Get it? Those costs cancell each other out for the most part.

Basically what Im saying is... If all you are doing is an intake, tb, and blower... the kit will come with everything you need but i HIGHLY VERY STRONGLY suggest a larger fuel pump at a minimun to be on the safe side.

Will the T5 hold up to it? Sure. The t5 will hold up to ANY power level if you drive it like a granny. Start really beating on it and you destroy any tranny at any power level. (ie: high rpm missed shifts, Real hard downshifting... that will grenade a tranny).

My t5 has held up just fine and I pretty much drive at WOT for 50% of the time i drive. I dont however miss gears or downshift hard.

(note: Upping the boost beyond 6 psi changes all the advice I just stated)

Listen to everything poneypower just told you, very good info. I will say right now if your budget allows it a S trim seems like the way to go. BUT the supercharger that poneypower is running is good for what you seem to be wanting to produce power wise. OR I also hear good things about the Paxton novi 1000 which can be had for about the same price as the SC trim vortech. Iam sure your looking at my sig and seeing I run a powerdyne, ill put this very clearly to state why i have a powerdyne blower, $720 used and that is the ONLY reason. It will be coming off hopefully winter/spring of next year for something that can handle 15 psi.

As far as power levels go i have gt 40 heads flow benched ported polished, extrud honed cobra upper and lower intake, 24# injectors, C&L 76mm calibrated for 24's, 75 mm T.B (the good one sorry cant think of it not professionl products), mac 3/4 LT's, full exhust, pullies, tstat, black majic fan, griffin alum radiator, 4:10's, all front tublar frontend with coil overs, rear upper and lower arms with relocate kit, and alum adjustible shocks, full lenth subs, passenger side air bag in rear, battery in trunk, tremac with tri-ax shifter, and prob some more i'm forgetting my car has gone 12.3 at mph ? cant remember with a 60' of 1.7's pulling the front wheels off the ground on 26x10 slicks and front skinnies. My car dyno'd at 310 H.P and 328 T.Q at the wheels! A buddy has the similer engine mods and about 20 more on the numbers both ways except his is a 306 he hit the bottle and came up with like 400 and some H.P and like almost or just over 500 T.Q at the wheels with a 150 shot. So just by doing the mods and saving weight then you should be able to make the 300 mark and depending on driving abilities mid to low 12's! I'm in the process of installing my bottle so i'm not sure yet what i'll put down on it? peace

Im a nitrous guy,but for what your wanting, go with the blower.

If you were shoting for more power, and it wasnt a DD I would say nitrous for sure.

6-7psi should get you 300hp at wheels with parts listed.Oh,and depending were you live, you might want to look into an intercooler/aftercooler so you are able to run more advance.

Im aware of what he said and hardly anybody with nitrous keeps the shot that low on an n/a car lol. I was saying 150 shot or 10 psi as thats the limits of what a standard "kit" usually can put out without you changing some stuff. I was merely using it as an example of street stuff and about how nitrous is harder to control on an all out setup but on a 150 shot or lower vs the average blower setup, nitrous isnt too much more of a killer than a blower.

Nitrous does get old quick.
