Well, ....

I was driving Westbound on Airport Highway in Toledo, as I was passing Angola road, a lady driving a maroon Mercury Cougar pulled right out in front of me. Hit my rear quarter panel and sent my car over a berm, knocked over a small pole (about 2 - 3 feet out of the ground) that had a cable connected to it, and the car came to a rest.
The whole passenger side will need to be replaced... The passenger door is shot, along with the rear quarter panel, the rear bumper and front facia, and some trim pieces. Also, the rims are damaged and a small area of the hood. Here's the best part of all...... you ready..... s h e h a s n o INSURANCE!! WOO-HOO!! What a freakin' surprise. I have full coverage and a $500 deductable, so I will get started from here. I'll see if I can get some pictures in the next day or so.. Also, I will post what the amount of damage is.

I'd beat the repair costs out of her. Stupid people with no insurance who don't know how the hell to drive. It should be that if you're awesome at driving, insurance is optional, but if you suck, then it's mandatory - this all being determined by a test that you have to take every 3 years. I'm just waiting for my turn...

In the state of Ohio you MUST by law have insurance. However, I can tell you from experience (in the Criminal Justice field that is) that around 40% of the people we pull over on the 8pm - 4am shift DO NOT have any form of insurance. That is NO exaggeration. In Toledo, at those time periods, 40%

Louisiana does have a law requiring liability at the very least... your car is impounded on site if your caught without it. MS, on the otherhand I think it is optional.

Cool, I live in Mentor..

I moved here from Canada not too long ago. I was in the BMV getting my Ohio license (don't even get me started on that BS. They made me take a full driving test [Written and driven] ). Because I guess we drive differently in Canada??

Anyways, there was a paper on the front counter that said you lose your license for 1 year (or 90 days maybe) on the first offense then when you get it back you must carry some special "high-risk" insurance that you have to report to the BMV every year for 5 years or so..

God.. I can't imagine how much that policy would be.. I already pay $220/month in insurance for my focus and GT. I haven't even had any accidents either..

Yeah, it is pretty rediculas. When you renew your plates or get new ones, they make you sign a paper stating that you have insurance. You don't even have to show any proof, they just take your word on it.

Just about 20 minutes north in Michigan they have "no fault" insurance; I feel that is even worse. I'm really careful when I drive in Michigan.

When I lived in Saskatchewan, you purchase your plates and you get insurance with it. So, it's impossible to "not" have insurance unless you have expired tags too.

It was a big change when I moved to Ohio. I went and got my tags and it only cost me $50. I thought that was sweet until I found out I had to buy insurance separately that cost twice as much as I was paying in Canada..

I really think that you should *have* to provide proof of insurance before you can get tags for a vehicle. I also think that the insurance companies should report to the BMV if your coverage expires. That would cause fewer problems.

It would be as worthless as tits on a warthog. AAA is going after her, the insurance company is going after her, then me. The insurance company has first dibs, they are already on the ball. They do this everyday. What she can pay out (if anything) will go to them. I could get her wages garnished, however that usually takes 6 months of court time and paperwork. I could take her to civil court and try and take her car.... however, if I do that, I just perpetuate her low income situation further by taking the only way she has to get to work. (That's assuming she the type of individual that stays employed longer than six months.) I could be optimistic, but instead I'm realistic. I know to much how this all works. She'll just be back on the road driving again and the vicious cycle will continue.

There is no state in the US that does not require at least liability insurance. No exceptions.

thats great

hey Skud, you're in Mentor? I was just up there on Sunday @ the Old Navy picking up clothes and such. I don't mind it out here, everyone seems pretty nice. Where I work in Cleveland kinda makes me want to purchase a bullet proof vest and put armor plating in my doors

Damn! I pay $167 for full coverage for my 2005 Yukon, 2003 Roush, and 2003 Cavalier. Can I ask how old you are and if you're married?

Sure,

I'm not married and I'll be 23 in July, so I tend to get roally screwed when it comes to insurance.. Apparently, your credit rating has a huge effect on your premium too. When I moved here, I had no credit and they won't look at my Canadian credit.. So that doesn't help any.

It's funny. When I only had my GT I was paying $201/month. When I got my focus my insurance "jumped" $19/month. I've tried to go to progressive (they want $293/month) and Geico ($270 something/month). Right now I'm with a smaller company..

My 6 month policy is over $1300. I was paying $1700CAN for a full year when I was living back home..

Man, I remember how I couldn't wait to hit 25 so my rates could drop. I turned 25 and got married in the same year so my rates droped big time. If and when you plan on getting married, ask your future wife/husband how their driving record is. I got lucky and my wife didn't have any bad marks on hers.

High insurance is just part of being young man....

I have USAA. They give a multi-car discount and we have our homeowners insurance through them as well. The wife and I plan on taking a defensive driving course next weekend that should lower the amount even more. I'm 29 and married with a spotless driving record.

It also helps to have firefighter plates on the stang. Been pulled over twice in the past couple of years (in my old Accord and in the Yukon) and have gotten off with just a warning.... The registered FF plates came up when they searched my driver's license number.
