SO 3 weeks after new engine starts, i really get to feel what it has TODAY!

Does your timing light have a numbered dial on the back of it? If so these numbers are different timing marks. With the spout connected you can set the timing at like 28 degrees using this dial, just set the dial to 28 and line up 0 on the ballancer with the pointer.

where does it say that plug is located???

my painless book i got with the car says its near the computer, i didnt think it would be inside the car. wasnt by the firewall. I will check it today

The standard harness kit says the spout is near the eec. So Id guess inside the car.

on the perfect engine managment kit it didnt show.

Does your car have a regular eec like a9l or a9p?
If so you just need to look near the eec for the spout.

ok i found the spout!
it was in the kick panel right by the EEC

i havent really used a spout lol so do i just start the car.... unplug spout, set timing....shut off and reconnect the spout??


my timing light is a cheapie lol just a basic light

Just unplug the spout, you can do it with the car running.

It is recomended that you pull spout start car set timing and shut off car and plug spout back in. I have done it both ways never had a problem.

Set your timing to 14-16 to start with.

i got it set. i had it pretty close when i timed it by ear b4.

i set it at 13deg base. i will start experimenting some with more timing later on.

when i had it timed b4, it was close but a little higher, around 15 i think, i am running 87 and didnt hear any pinging. how far can u take the timing b4 it starts hurting you...

whats funny is i have NEVER known i had a spout, so every time i have timed my car since i have owned it.... i was off i guess


with the cam the car seems to advance alot at idle. like around with the 13 base it was idling with like 16 degs does the cam do that??

hmm i duno then, it never seemed that car off with the stock engine...

Just set the base where you want it and let the eec add timing. No worries. If you never had timing set right in past you prolly still had more et on the table. Now go to the track and run it again.
