Someone makes a dog thread, and we have to put ours down?

Yeah definately better today, but still sucks. She was the only "person" you could always count on to have a smile on her face every day. When you called for her she was the only one gaurantee's to come running, never too busy for you.

At least she isn't suffering, the vet said she would have been miserable if not dead if she stayed home today.

And don't worry she was lucky enough to ride in the fox after I finished it...

You guys did the right thing, when you have an animal and love it you have to look out for its best interest. Its not like the dog can drive to the vet and be taken care of.

My dog Samson (siberian husky) died last fall, we had him since 1995 as a puppy. I couldn't help but let out a few tears, he was like another brother to me.

We had a yorkshi terrier (I think thats how you spell it) who was running on 11 years old. It was so sad because she would be walking around and suddenly start having these convulsions right in the middle of the floor. It was so sad, and there was nothing we could do about it. We had to just take her down to the vet and have her put to sleep.

Her name was Niece (short for Sheniece).

No worries Dave, I don't have any scanned pics of her or I'd toss them up... Maybe when I get home. I LOVED the fact she always looked like a puppy. She never got that old Golden look to her, she was small and stayed looking like a puppy for her entire life. Something I always loved!

25th I hope you are feeling better today. I also do not look forward to the day I have to put either of my dogs down. They have had some rough lives before they entered my home and they seem like kids at times. I just read some where that " dogs are not your whole life but that they make your life whole" , seems so true.

You did do the right thing by putting him down though, I watched through the summer as my neighbors dog just dragged its legs behind itself some days because it was so sick. At that point you are just keeping the dog alive for your self and not its best interests. My neighbor still gets brought to tears when she sees my dogs outside looking for thier buddy. Just keep your head up and remember if you have any sealed food left to bring it to the pound it might make you feel better to help another dog and maybe you will find a new friend.

Yeah we are not the people to watch her suffer. She never showed signs of anything until the day we put her down, and it turns out it was the right time to do it. I don't feel bad for putting her down, she probably would have wanted that, I just hate knowing that for the past 14 years I have come home to her wagging her tail and she wont ever do that again.

Wouldn't have wanted life without her no matter how bad it is right after she goes!

25th I feel for ya bro. I posted on here a pic of our new pool table and then a pic of the gaurd dog which was a pic of our lil Yorkie on a pink bed. Caught her on a bad hair day with that pic, it was so funny. Well anyway we lost to the Rainbow Bridge not long after that due to an unfortunate accident. She was so small and fragile, but so nice, loving and funny dog. Im a grown man and I can honestly tell you that I cried for many days after. I have never lost anyone close to me (us), so the family really took it hard.
My advise is to just try to remember the good times and dont be ashamed to shed a tear or 12637467, sometimes that helps.
To this day I still miss her a lot, especially when I see our new pup doing things differently. She's a different story. She is being loved just the same.

Thanks, and I know how you feel. It sucks when they become part of your life and you lose them. I was surprised on my local board how I made a post and everyone was there for support. I figured people would think it was over reacting to cry about a dog, but I guess most people feel like I do. They are part of your family, and never have any ill will towards anyone.

I hope things get better 25th because I know exactly how you feel.When my family had to get our German Shepard "Major" put down it was the worst day of my life. I grew up with him and he was always there , I still miss him everyday.

My first dog that I cold actually call mine was a boxer/something mix, we were told alaskan malamute, but IDK, Bama. He was the absolute coolest dog ever, wagged his whole body like he was a pup, but he was actually a 100+lb muscular beast.

We were walking out of the vet after a check up and he was trying to get in the front seat with me. Well he wouldn't go anywhere but the front seat and he pulled backwards, pulling himself out of the collar and he ran out onto the hwy as I sprinted after him. He got hit by a honda odyssey and was thrown across the median. I ran out and stopped traffic and picked up my still breathing dog, he died right there in my arms. It was the worst feeling of my life and I still miss him to this day.

I feel for ya man. When I was younger, we had to put our 10 year old golden retriever down after his liver/kidneys started to shutdown. My brother's dog who was from the litter our other golden fathered, had a heartattack at 4 years old. She was fit and health but just collapsed while playing catch one day.

The worst for me was when I was 13 and we had just moved. I found our 9 year old dachshund after she was hit by a car. It was one of the worst feelings.

I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy.
