If I ever lose the use of my right hand/arm, I'm pretty much on foot. Both of my cars are manuals, so unless I came up with a crafty way of shifting with my left AND steering...

See? Automatics aren't all bad, in the overall scheme of things...

Yea really. Every1 says im lucky the Stang is auto, but w/a busted shifting arm im still on the shelf 4 a while because gear selection up & down is ALL by the driver. If i had a busted foot or leg then id be lucky i didnt have a manual w/a clutch 2 use.

major pain so far today. no fun

that leg pic is sick. glad someone topped me in that respect

here is a great pic showing the actual carnage of the day. the other one was at a bad angle. seeing this one brought back bad memories, haha. i am doing fine except for having nearly no grip strength. You know what my big breakthrough was? Being able to push in the button to shift my car

Good thing they caught you in that pic after you wiped the tears out of your eyes, huh.

I really hope your left handed dude. Shifting your car is one thing, but I don't know what I'd do if I couldn't "punch the clown" for 4-6 weeks.

No tears, no yelling, etc. I was in immediate shock and honestly felt nothing but lots of pressure (and lots rushing to my head, but I was able to keep conscious). After about 10 seconds of that I was ok in that respect, then stared at my hand in denial thinking stuff like "i didn't just do that", "omgwtf", "nooooo!", etc. Anyway that's why I love that picture, becaues it is so unlike what anyone would expect from the whole ordeal. everyone has been telling me (stlil are) that they cant believe i didn't cry, pass out, scream, etc. I never broke a bone before but I always felt I would've. I never believed when people said they just don't feel it, but I'll be damned if they weren't right! Here's another as I was on my way to the meat wagon...always in good spirits and this is a nice testament to that fact

Major discomfort for the couple hours it took them to give me meds @ the hospital. Slight pain. The real pain didn't come until that night after 2 bone resettings, having the drugs all wear off, and swelling into the splint they put me in. Man that ****in hurt!! After having the splint slightly loosened I was relieved a bunch, but it still throbbed and I just pounded some pills to cope. The next couple days the swelling went down in half my hand but remained in the rest, then it just got slowly better as time went on.

Righ now I am actually able to type but as I said, got no grip/thumb strength whatsoever. My pinky & ring finger are still tender to the touch and throb most the day. It's a feeling as if I just punched a wall or slipped w/a socket wrench and busted my knuckle on the car, and they were sore but not to the point of screaming (i'm sure most of you can relate to my 2nd analogy ,haha!)

oh yea - dig the Mustang hat!

Dave, I just saw this for the first time. Best of luck getting all healed up and having full range of motion and function.

Just tell people you were armwrestling and your arm snapped.

Now maybe we can have a mod *temporarily* change Dave's avatar to a picture of his brokenness (with his CT I think I have a problem here. it'd be kinda funny). EDIT: I know that was so wrong. I'm sorry.

Seriously, get healed up 100% ASAP Dave!

Wow, after seeing those pic's of your leg, and Dave's arm, I'm like, "Man, I hope those guys heal quick and still have normal use of their limbs."

It's not really the same thing, but back in 1986, when I was a Junior in High School, I broke my jaw in two places. Man, did that mother****er hurt! I was shooting basketballs before gym class started and I made like 5 in a row. As someone got my last swish, he passed it back to me for another shot. I never got to take it because out of nowhere, another kid came flying in to intercept the pass and hit me square on the left side of my face with his forehead. The impact sent my jaw to the right, breaking it on the other side as well. I went down like Mike Tyson punched me out.

When I got up, the assistant gym teacher sent me to the locker room to change and told me to go to the school nurse's office. In the locker room the Football coach (real loser) asked me WTF happened and scoffed when I yelled out that I think I broke my jaw.

At the nurses office, the nurse told me to go home and off I went. I got home and explained to my mother what had happened and we rushed to the local dentist. He said that I only had a bruise and that I'd be o.k. in a few days. Well, after two days of not being able to eat, my mom took me to the Emergency Room of our local hospital, where they X-rayed my face. Sure enough, it was broken. I stayed that night and was wheeled into surgery the following morning. They knocked me out and when I awoke, I had metal pieces in both the upper and lower portions of my gums and they were held tightly together with small rubber bands. The PAIN was ridiculous and no amount of drugs was going to help. I stayed wired up like that for 5 weeks, losing 17 pounds off of my then 160 lb. frame. Luckily, the surgeons did a great job because I haven't had any problems with it since then.

It's kind of comical when I look back at it. After it happened and I returned to school, EVERYBODY was telling me that I should have gotten up and killed the kid who did it because if it had happened to them, that's what they would have done (yeah right). What I learned is that it was an accident and he didn't mean for it to happen. Honestly, when I was hit, the first thing I was concerned with was the pain. I wasn't concerned with beating somebody! Everyone's an "Armchair Quarterback, eh?"
