Stirring the pot, trying to decide which cam?

Ok ok, calm down peeps. This is not a gear debate.. I have been in a stang with 4:10's + 4R70W trans and 1st gear is way too short..And the car hits o/d before the end of the 1/4 at 12.9.. :notnice: i have 3:73's and may go up to 3:90's.. nothing higher..

Since you're thinking of adding boost I wouldn't change the 3:73's. You should be roasting the tires through 1st and 2nd with either a S/C or turbo and the wide ratio tranny.

i cant even squeek a tire off the line.. Even a rollin punch is crap...:rlaugh:

Its fun once its moving but I just cant deal with it.. This has me wondering about the gears.. My rpm is 2300ish at 70 MPH ,17x9 40 series tires.. pretty sure thats 3:73, trans guy said he had to order the speedo gear..

So the final conclusion is this motor is very disappointing.. :notnice:

A friend had an identical car to mine about 5 years ago, his car was much much faster then mine is.. I think he had a chip and no cats, I still have the header cats and no chip.

Well i guess my gain from this is goin to be about 70hp?
I am shooting for 350RWHP after the SC or turbo ..

My bad , it was 3 3/4.. i checked it 3 times...

After i posted it, i was like wait wasnt it 3 3/4, so i triple checked....

Sorry about that:D

so are 19lb injectors going to cut it for now with this setup?

Ok well 19lbs will not cut it with any power adder. And they are only good up to about 280RWHP and thats maxed out.

As far as the cam, yes put it in while your there. I have a cam similar to the E and I make 320RWHP on motor and its SUPER streetable. However I have a chip.

That last bit there "I have a Chip"!

What kind are you using, is it an off the shelf or a burned for your setup??\

I was going to run 19# bosch 700's until i am going to supercharge it, then swap out the injectors and MAF.. Do i need to do the MAF and injectors now?

Guessing I might as well go 30#? I dont think 24# will cut it with a Super

No. As soon as you change the injectors and put in a different MAF the PCM (computer) needs to be programmed for the new parameters. The program can be a chip or some other tuning device, Tweecer, PMS, etc or a stand-a-lone EMS. Changing the intake and heads shouldn't be a problem but changing the cam now may create some driveability issues. If a S/C or turbo is in the near future I would start to acquire the needed parts and do one install at that time. However, you need to know exactly where you are going before you can choose the correct parts.

this is not strictly true. so long as the MAF and the injectors are "matched", then you should still be able to drive the car without making changes to the computer. i'll be happy to explain why if anyone is interested in knowing the details, but i imagine most people already understand why.

nevertheless, it is better if the computer has correct and accurate info. many of the decisions it makes are based on the information it gets from the MAF, so if that is not accurate, then it will not run as well as it could.

Off the shelf chip. However I also have a friend with ported E7s edelbrock intake B303 cam 1.7rr's and 24lb injectors and ProM maf calibrated for the 24lbers he has no problems at all with no chip or anything except for a rought cold start idle that is gone once the o2's heat up.

The quick info on matching meters to inj size is this :D

24's won't be like it should be :(
but
It won't be so far off that it will not work pretty good :)

30's might idle/cruise a bit rich and could cause cold start issues

From this point on with 36's and 42's

You most likely will have issues
