Summer Upgrades

I finally got a raise at my summer job, so I figured its time to buy some more upgrades for my car. This is what I'm planning, help me out with the details, or any changes you would make. I want to spend no more then $1000 in parts and labor at this time.

3.73 Gears - Ford - $150
Stall Converter - Which One? - Price?
Shift Kit - Which One? - Price?
Tranny Cooler - Which One? - Price?

Other possibles depending on price:
B&M Hammer Shifter - $150-200
Aluminum Driveshaft - $150

Help me fill in the details here so I can start ordering these parts. My friend owns a speed shop, so the labor costs wont be too outrageous hopefully. Thanks for the help.

Gears would be the best bang for the buck and since its an auto i would look at 4.10. Then underdrive pullies-$100
used intake-$300 or an off road H/X pipe-$120-$200 IF you don't have emissions.
This would be my choices if i where you

Well I already have underdrive pulleys, just need to borrow the right tools from my friend to put them on. And I also have a MAC Prochamber to go with my longtubes, which is basically the same, if not better then a plain Off Road Pipe. But on the intake, you thinking $300 for both an upper and lower? I was looking at Cobra intakes, so that might be a good option seeing that its not all that hard to install so I could do that myself. Thanks, keep the help coming.

Yes about 300 for upper/lower check out ebay they pop up now and again.
65mm throttle body-$250(ford racing)could go with bbk they have them in summit $180
Mass Air Meter(pro-m/CnL)-$200/$300
That would help her inhale better since she can already exhale pretty well. You can find these used you just have to look around.

for that price you could do gears (150), a TB(270ish), cold air induction(80), and an upper and lower intake(400 Trick Flow). Like wytstang pointed out, you have a good exhaust setup, you should take advantage of that. More air flow = more horsepower. If you get a TB, I highly recommend Ford Racing as it comes with new electronics.

All I can say is check out ebay and local car clubs, getting stuff used is a huge way to save money. If I were you however, I would get 4.10s, a used intake, used 65 mm t/b, a new MAF, and look into a new shift kit .. sorry im not good on the prices for any of those, but you should stay under a grand pretty easy.

PI stallion converter or look at what Yank is making now.

they make quality stuff.

B&M tranny cooler will be fine... might get a tranny temp guage too.

you are on the right track.. you will just be pissed after you spend the cash on the little boltons and it does barely anything.

intake and exhaust are a must though

You have a good idea on what you want to do to your car. I think a converter would be an excellent idea (as well as the tranny cooler and shiftkit). On Precision Industries website, they have articles that you can read from magazines that show what kind of performance differences that their converters made. One guy with an 89 LX put in a 2,600 stall and dropped 5 tenths in the 1/4 mile.

From what I hear, Precision Industries and Edge are two of the best converter manufacturers out there. Click on the links to their site to read more about them.

As far as shift-kit's go, I hear good things about Trans-Go kit's. I believe that Summit sells them.

Tranny coolers; I personally used a B&M 19,000 gvw unit on my 91 LX 5.0 and overall I could say that it was a pretty good kit. It came with everything I needed to install; the only thing is, I had to buy some extra hose to run it inline with the cooler in my radiator. Had I known then what I know now, I would have gone with the biggest kit possible; especially living in a hot climate. Take a look at B&M's website for more information. I believe that Summit sells these as well.

95snoozer has a good Idea about a Tranny temp gauge as well. It would be nice to know where your tranny is running at, especially with an aftermarket converter, as they generate a lot of heat.

You dont need to get a raise to buy a tranny cooler. The Converter will take MOST of that grand, so that is out for now, although a good future mod. DEFINITELY need gears..Minimum 373's Max 410's.

I CAI and Intake are worth it also.

With your budget.

1. gears
2. shift kit
3. cooler
4. CAI. (esp to remove that stock box)
5. Intake.

If you do the work yourself, you will be at budget...if not, you will be a little over.
Dont forget the timing bump, clean oil change, and tune up.

Im not allowed to mention it.....MODERATOR/DICTATOR Joe won't allow it.

Oh, and I wouldnt quite jump on 4.10's yet..depends on your future mods..If you're going with more power adders within the next year or 2, 3.73's will be fine on an AODE, especially if youre on the hwy a lot.
