ok guys, here we go. We are starting with an 01 GT completly untouched bone stock! Its a 5speed and Ive decided to go with a supercharger. Now, I know that a centrifugal like a vortech or procharger etc. doesnt give you the bottom end punch of a screw type like a KB. But will the bottom end be an improvement over what I have now or will it have blower lag. And does the KB not have the top end of a centi. type charger? I would prefer the bottom end torque since it is a street car. I just want to run a mild setup around 7psi or so. Its an everyday driver and im just looking to make around 350ish rwhp or so. Maybe alittle more. So what would you guys suggest?

A KB will be better for around town driving because the boost is instant. Centri's are better for top end. It just depends on your budget, and what you want with the car. A KB will be harder on your engine compared to a cenrti.

there is a noticable difference in low end power with a centri blower. even tho the engine isn't under boost, it still is getting more airflow and less vacuum. if all you want is 350rwhp, then look for a used 1.7L KB kit. new i think they only sell the 2.0L and up now. the KB will give you a better powerband in a low boost application.

For the street a KB is the best option, imho. you don't have to be wot/high rpm to enjoy the rush of boost. at half throttle I see between 3 and 5 psi, besides you can do short "bursts" without drawing the attention of unwanted spectators

I bought a used 1.7 from a guy locally for 3K. It brings joy to my life everytime I get in my car. Instant boost is soo much fun. BTW I dyno'd 370 with 401 tq @ 9lbs of boost. As soon as I get a forged bottom end I'm going to test the limits of the 1.7 :)
Just check the classifieds on the various mustang forums and check as often as possible because they go quick.

I love my KB, it's the customer service that sucks
In fact, now that I think about it, buy the "tuner kit" and have the local guy supply the chip and the injectors, that way you won't have to deal with KB too much.

It was the customer service that made me go with a Vortech. Especially when I asked KB for some info on a 2.1L Mustang GT kit and they gave me info on a Jeep kit. :rlaugh:
