So I bought a SC, a Vortech V1 setup, and I was going to go at the install myself, but I ws talking to the local Mustang parts guy here and he told me a few things. He claims he has never had a customer who installed a SC and didn;t have issues. Constant tuning, low reliability, and bearing failure, causing small pieces of bearing to be sucked up into the motor when they do fail. This guy told me to use my 30 pound injectors, matching MAF, 75 MM TB, AFR heads, and gears to achieve mid 11's...If SC's are so bad why are they so popular?? I got told to use the FMU, not use the FMU, I'm to the pont i'm ready to sell the SC and go with a 347.

your mechanic doesnt know much. any type of forced induction will need a tune but there is no constant tuning needed. a lot of people run sc and never have a problem.

i have 3 complaints about my sc...
1. i have a v1 so it whines loud at idle so its a dead give away i have a sc
2. hp is addictive and its tempting to increase the boost
3. my car is a daily driver and 461rwhp + 3200rpm stall + 3.73's + standard 40k mile tire = no traction on the street
my tires are going bald fast so ill be getting some nittos or something else thats better then what i have now

I would hate to see you pay some mechanic to install a supercharger that you can do easily. Sounds like he wants the money to install your SC. I installed my own on each engine and once you get the initial tune it is usually a done deal after that minus the usual care and fine tuning to get better drivability/power. I have 20,000 miles on my V2 and no problems. However a 347 with a V1 is even better if you are able to do both. Traction problems is a good problem to have!

Your mechanic is an idiot. And if you're on a stock shortblock, you won't be seeing mid-11s with his combo suggestion. Most foxes don't even get tuned after installing a blower and run fine. I have no tune and have been driving it this way for 2 years now with 60lb injectors and over 600rwhp through an AOD. The car runs sub-10.50 @ >130mph on radials untuned and at full weight.

I wouldn't go so far as to say that.
I would. It takes a lot for a fox to need a tune. There are plenty of 10 sec EFI foxes where I'm from and I can't think of one that has a custom tune for it. My car starts and idles just fine off a stock A9P and is well into the 10s, runs a large injector, and makes fairly decent power. Sure improvements could be made with a chip, but it isn't necessary to be safe.

Get a tune. If you decide not to, you're taking a gamble. You need to at LEAST know that the air/fuel ratio is in the safe zone. Recommending a blower install without at least checking the tune is not good advise.

Get ride of the FMU, run #42LB Injectors. I had a supercharger on my 95 and once I had a chip burnt for it I had no issues with it

hey lucky i was jus going to im u.. lol. mad bored.. by the way.. personally it seems that ur going to spend mad money on ur car.. i would personally do a build up of a close friends.. he has a 331stroker.. 185afr.. custom cam.. i forgot what intake but someting big like a edlebrock? and he has a custom burnt chip.. granted his is a dd.. but he doesnt tune it at all after the new chip it was all good... his car can get 10s but he cant drive for ***** and no traction.. otherwise.. i would go with a engine first.. low comperssion then save up for a sc

you have been very lucky. Any car with boost in its combination needs a tune. Especially with cam and heads on it. I don't know of anyone with a fox that doesn't have a tune and pushing a decent amount of boost

I'm not against superchargers, but to a degree especially for a DD, you are going to have more issues.

A well built 347 comb can be as fast or faster, and more reliable.
Unfortunately box stock 165's may not be enough of a head, 75 meter will be too small, and you'll need at least an rpm II intake, w 75 TB.
So at this point the supercharger may be more bang for your buck.

It also depends on how abusive you are, supercharger definetely puts more of a beating on the engine. You are less likely to ruin the bearings, or blow a HG NA.

I know guys in the mid/high 10's and low 11's with NA 347's, also laying down nearly 450 rwhp.

Supercharger definetely wins the coolness category. Along with making more peak HP.

I can't say how reliable the supercharger is yet as i don't have many miles on the motor and setup. Will be back on the road soon after major drivetrain upgrade. It's bad enough that I'm living on borrowed time with the numbers I'm putting to the wheels, but wanted to make sure I don't break any drivetrain stuff. But I do have to agree, get it tuned. Too much money to skimp there and blow your motor by going too lean. Don't have to go to my extremes with a stand alone setup, but at least a custom chip will do just fine. Good luck!! Oh, and as for the install, no major issues especially if you have an aftermarket oil pan with a return linr bung welded in it already. Everything else is fairly easy with basic hand tools.

so can a supercharger pushing say 9lbs of boost be run on a stock setup? Is bigger injectors, fuel pump MAF and TB a necessity? I can get a blower for a decent price but then i can also get all those accessories for a bit more. Also, if i have a chip...what can be achieved by reprogramming it for a supercharger? Can it act as a boost retard or what? THANKS!
