OK I know alot of us prefer or switch from the aod to the t5. However my mustang seems to be eating king cobra cluthces for dinner every 1000 miles. The cobra clutch is suposed to be able to handle 425hp. The car has a 1993 cobra motor with an e cam and an 11lb powerdyne bd11a model supercharger bolted on. The problem is I have a loud rapping noise coming from the clutch no slip just a rap raping sound that gets worse with rpm but sometimes misteriouly gos away then comes back . (Last time I had this noise the flywheel weight decided to hang on by one rivet and spin around chewing up the starter) I am ready to ditch the t5z and get a high performance aod or c4 dose anyone have any idea on what i will need to do the swap or what clutches are better than the king cobra?

Spec clutches are supposed to be better. I have a KC, and for my stock set ups its fine so far. Not sure about a c4, but going to an aod will be more complex than going aod to t5. You would have to attach trans fluid cooler lines, TV cables, shifter cables, aod harness, and a few other things I can't think of at the moment. It can be done, but upgrading the clutch would probably be the easiest and cheapest.

If your set on going to an AOD I wouldn't think find all of the parts would be that hard to get. As many people on here switch the other way, there should be plenty of people with cooler lines, shifters and things you would need.

I heard in the old debates that an auto is better for drag racing since no one can shift as fast as a race prepped auto with this in mind I am going to check out the ger trannsmissions with a manual valve body and 2600 non lock up converter I wonder if i will need more stall with the e-cam and blower.

I would go with a C4 or a C6. Contrary to belief, the C6 doesn't hog as much HP as you think. Any of the C trannys will be cheaper to build than an AOD. They will handle more power for cheaper. Try an Art Carr convertor. They will build you a custom convertor based on every single spec on your car. Some people choose the sunday special convertors to save money and always wonder why their car runs like crap. It's kinda pricey for the custom built one, but it is worth it in the long run. I always believed that the 2 most important things to spend the extra $$$ on is torque convertor, and fuel system. I've got over 900 runs on my Art Carr right now and haven't lost any MPH or ET yet.

If you keep eating king cobra clutches, doesn't that tell you something? INVEST IN A DIFFERENT CLUTCH! If one thing keeps failing it doesn't hurt to explore in a different realm. I'de be impressed if you blew a spec stage II or III myself, very capable equipment.

In addition to the swap, don't forget the ecu that runs the auto programming and the wiring/harness to go with it if you don't already have it.
