Progress Thread Tannerc91gt’s Build(s) Thread

I'll try this "pictures AND text thing" Mike told me about.

Test fit the seats, will get the brackets installed tomorrow and get the drivers seat mounted how I like it. The Racecraft mounts allow for a ton of adjustability. Some won't care for the seats but with a cover they're really comfortable.
Feel free to admire my hacked up arm rest, still irritated that it looks like that but don't have any good solutions at this time.

Also got the MS3 harness into the car. Which was a lesson in patience to say the least.
This car still has every bit of factory padding/carpet/sound deadening etc etc and for whatever reason I really like it that way. Not even going to pull the heater core out.

I cut as small of a hole as I could in the passenger footwell area to run the harness. From there it went under the frame rail between the K member and up and behind the passenger cylinder head. It's all kind of strung out in the picture below but as far as rats nests go I think it still looks fairly nice.

The fun part was when I realized I hadn't passed it through the glovebox like I meant to. So I unplugged it all and took it back from behind the passenger cylinder head, down between the k member and frame rail, around and through a small hole in the footwell. One awkwardly shaped clip at a time. Then through the glove box and down through the small.....you get the idea.
Good times.

I'll be modifying the glovebox guts a bit and mounting the fuse panel/ECU up here where it's accessible but not visible. Battery leads look like they're long enough to make it back to the battery so for a non-fox specific harness it's worked out great so far. Will have to cut out the coil pack plugs from the main harness and move them towards the coils mounted in the fender well. I'll also have to extend the alternator pigtail but I was already prepared for that one.

42" plug wires are a bit excessive as you can see.
Also started laying out the pushlock setup I bought to plumb the gates and BOVs. I'm really green when it comes to the required layout so it'll take some trial and error I suppose. I've got a vacuum block mounted to the cylinder head you can see above, I'm hoping will be a centralized home to nearly all of it.

Tomorrow I'll pull the oil pan and weld the bung in. Need to measure for a driveshaft as well, I've been told that shortening my aluminum shaft might not be the best idea. Need to get to the bottom of that.

Why are you not running the COP system with the coil packs mounted on the VC's like they were originally intended to go? Seems like you are pushing current way farther than necessary.

Technically it's a Coil Near Plug system, is it not? They're still relatively near the plugs :)

The valve covers I wanted to run don't have provisions for coils and I like the cleaned up look of hidden coils. Keeps the coil packs (they're the desirable yet ugly truck ones with the heat sinks) away from the headers and makes it easier to run plug wires without having to go up/through the headers. I've never seen extended wires be a problem on any caliber of LS build. 42" might be a bit excessive but it's a cut to fit kit.

My only 'negative' comment is that the breather tank is going to be a whore to drain when it's all back together. Other than that, it looks fantastic.
Can reach it with a water bottle through the wheel well without removing anything. My only concern is its alignment with the rear tire should it leak. Really don't want it in the engine bay though.

For whatever reason I've had it in my head that this nice aluminum driveshaft I've been saving is for a powerglide. It came with the cobra when I bought it 2 years ago. I measured it right after I picked up the white car and I've had 51" in my head ever since. I pulled it out today for the hell of it and it measured a little over 48" which is roundabout the length needed for a th400. So I swapped the yokes (it did have a pg yoke?) and it fit like a glove.
Saving me $300+ I would have spent putting a plain old steel shaft in it.
Calling that a win.

Also put the new driveshaft loop in which I'm a big fan of. No welding/cutting/drilling the car anywhere.

Worked on the wastegate/BOV plumbing a bit today as well as the engine harness, still trying to figure out where it all goes.
I gut the glovebox and made room for the ECU and fuse panel to fit inside with the door shut. It's all kind of stuffed in there though. Heater core will have to go if I want to make it look nice and neat I think. Just not much room.

Ignore the USB connection hanging down I will tie it up somewhere accessible but out of sight.

The Racecraft seat brackets are fantastic. Car is up on jack stands so I haven't got to take it for a test ride but it looks nice. Need to decide on covers. Thinking the grey tweet is the right way to go.

Lastly I took another trip to the parts store for radiator hoses, this time a Chrysler town&country and a Chevy blazer donated hoses for this attempt.

The upper hose contacts the passenger side BOV but I couldn't put it any higher for fear of contacting the hood. Might live with it, might have to go to something like an AN line or braided ugliness. Lower worked out well though. Crossing it off for now.

Tomorrow that damn oil pan will finally come off.

Been a while since I've checked in on your thread and I've got to say everything is looking real nice bro! Even though you get some flack for the LS power plant I'm glad you have this build thread going on since there's really very little "build worthy" going on in the Fox section IMO. Keep up the good work :nice:

I had a list somewhere of 7-8 things I wanted to get done in my time off this week and I've got it knocked down to one thing left.

Got the bung welded in my pan today. I bought a holesaw kit from harbor freight a while back and put it to use. I could see the bit moving down further and further but when I lifted there was still no hole in the pan. Just a toothless holesaw bit lol. Stepped drill bit did the trick luckily.

Might get to setting the rear end up tomorrow. Ran out of kerosene again today :/

Also there's a bird in my shop somewhere that keeps :poo:ting on my car. Even indoors I can't escape them. Pissed.

Thanks man. The real anti-LS guys stay clear of the thread and don't protest or anything and that's respectable. I've really gotten a kick out of rereading some of my older threads and finding pictures I'd lost so I like keeping a log of the project as it goes even if it's just for my own benefit. Some of the more LS friendly forums I don't really care for so I'm pretty much stuck with you guys lol

When you realize the error of your ways, I will come take that piece of junk LS car off your hands! By far my favorite build you have done so far.

Do everything in your power to keep the coil wires away from the harness for that megasquirt. Trust me when I tell you this that you will be chasing your tail around and around if they run parallel. Just a tip from the guru
I really appreciate the tip. I'm having to figure out a new home for them now and I'll remember to avoid that.
