Progress Thread Tannerc91gt’s Build(s) Thread

And take the ugly sticker off the windshield.... ;)

Speaking of this thread, I saved a pic on my phone from FB that reminded me of this, despite the bad grammar.

Carry on bud!
You used this in both of our threads...

Decided to bail on the motorplates. Was never really in love with the idea to begin with and once I got my hands on them and starting working through what I was going to need to do to set it up right and then hurdles it would create, I decided not to use them.
The idea here is to NOT make the stupid decisions I later come to regret.

So instead, I borrowed the K member out of the fox. I did keep the adjustable heim joint UPR a arms because they’re miles better than the AJEs poly bushing arms that I’ve grown to hate.
Painted the arms to match and slung it under the car. Since the cars share the same steering rack, there was a couple more powdercoated parts I was able to swap. Think it ended up looking really nice.

Last but not least, through the use of chains and ratchet straps, I was able to get the actual motor and trans into the car.

Test fit the hood and it’s perfect.

Not bad for a day work.

Is that a real thing, cause I would do that for sure!

Did some research....Clear powder coating over bare steel is, apparently, a bad idea. The consensus says it'll rust under the clear.

However, this product got good reviews...and Dupont ( supposedly ) has a good adhesion promoter for painting their clear on bare metal.

Tonight’s progress: I “built” my headers.
Have been sitting on a decent set of truck manifolds for a while. Spent some time cleaning them up with a wire wheel.

Then I hit them with some VHT I have little faith in. Likely to wrap them anyways though.

Got to use my new (to me) MIG to put some Vbands on them and fit them up, I think they’re going to work out great. And having a $50 investment in the exhaust manifolds is a big help too.

Fit up the cobra radiator and fan that I had stashed from my old 03 car. The Team Z lower core support I welded in has pockets for the bottom studs so it still fits in like factory which is what I was after.

This got dropped off today as well. The budget has run dry for a couple weeks so I think tomorrow I’ll start on the electrical side of things and find a home for the ecu and Leash board.

Hmm, I dont know that I would trust a paint, but I thought PC would be nice and durable. Anyone, carry on Tanner.
The couple chassis guys I’m (Facebook) friends with have suggested paint as it will be easier to see cracks and less problematic should I need to do any welding on the housing. I dunno.

Well most people paint their rear axle housings I guess, and you have valid points about paint showing any weakness. I just meant as far as a clear product. Is clear coat paint as durable as a base coat paint?
