Progress Thread Tannerc91gt’s Build(s) Thread

Well most people paint their rear axle housings I guess, and you have valid points about paint showing any weakness. I just meant as far as a clear product. Is clear coat paint as durable as a base coat paint?
the only thing I know about paint is that it doesn’t always match the lid on the can. Knowledge stops about there

Dang impressive as always! Did you preheat the manifolds before you welded the vbands clamps on them? I know that cast iron can crack with a mig or you can get poor penetration.
My TIG was not liking the cast deal at all. I’m in bad need of some new cups and don’t think I was setup right anyways. Was making brittle welds. Didn’t do anything special with the MIG though, we will have to see how they hold up. Penetration looked decent from what i could see through the opening but it was my first experience with cast steel.

Went to a Metal Supermarket today. Maybe it was @CarMichael Angelo telling me about them, but I should have listened a long time ago. Got a pretty good haul for $90.
Hopefully mount the turbos this evening.
You're welcome...
And......two things..

#1 Any bare metal you clear over is gonna rust...
Enter into evidence "Exhibit A"

And......The VHT high heat paint will absolutely work, if you heat cure it in an oven like it says on the can to do.

You posted a pic of Medusa in two threads.

:dead:

Just an idea....if you can move it over to the other hole you can have functioning fog lights.... I'm sure ya know that.

That car is coming together well. I got a lil upset seeing the fox leave and this new edge show up, but now I see the vision. :nice:

Can’t move it over. It will make more sense when I post up the pictures of the mounts when they’re finished. There’s still room to have functioning fog lights though.

And the fox is about 6’ to the right in this picture! With a fancy UPR k member that I need to put in it :nice:

Little more progress today.
Got the turbos mounted. My eyes must be crooked because every picture I took makes them look unlevel, but I measured and measured and they’re spot on.

Started touting the coldside from the intercooler to the TB. The intercooler looks low, it’s maybe 3/4” below the core support and still higher than the bumper lip but I think I’m going to lean it out so I can bring it up a bit for peace of mind.

Plenty of room for a good filter :nice:

Downpipes will be especially easy this way. The hotside looks like it’s going to be pretty boring also. This time I’m going to mount the gates where they can exhaust out the same spot.

After scratching my head a bit, I’ve realised the cobra radiator setup isn’t going to fly. I want to run the cold side through the factor CAI hole. Seems stupid to put it anywhere else.
But it’s a jungle of radiator lines and this throttlebody angle isn’t helping. So it looks like I can go a drivers side inlet, Passenger side outlet and clear the path for a 3 or maybe 3.5” coldside pipe.

Lastly, started working on the trunk floor. I’m lacking certain parts so I’m bouncing around from task to task right now, leaving a path of unfinished jobs.

Need to trim up the front facing end a bit and then clean up some transitions and I’m hoping that once it’s welded, sealed and painted it might come out pretty decent.
I was going to forgo sub trunk floor bracing since this stuff is pretty sturdy but im afraid it’s big enough to buckle or rattle so I’m going to pull it out and build some sort of subfloor to mount everything to through the floor and to help tie down the trunk floor.
Scottrod will still get the nod for the rear seat delete.

I think I’ll try some more aluminum welding and mount the intercooler tomorrow

I think its just the orientation of the turbos that makes them look off. The inlets look level enough to me. On the trunk floor, you could just weld a couple 1 inch square tube sections across, and I bet that would be enough to sturdy it up.

Damn good work for going as fast as you are. As far as your turbo plumbing being boring, that is good. Complicated just means headaches and problems!

Got the rest of the interior removed. This will be pleasant to reinstall I’m sure

While I had the dash out I installed my Holley dash and built a bracket to mount the Leash board. The Dominator is going in the glovebox just have to make it a little support as well. Setting it up where the plugs can be accessed will make adding additional I/Os a breeze.
