Progress Thread Tannerc91gt’s Build(s) Thread

Can I have the motor and trans when this thing goes out in the yard?

I REALLY want to put this into my Suburban. :nice:

...and this is why we forgive you for your transgressions because

Digging this up for an update.

After some trial and error (mostly error)
I came up with a coldside I was happy with.

Definitely getting my fair share of aluminum practice and slowly learning some of the do's and dont's. Long, long way to go but I'm at least to the point of not being embarrassed for people to see it. That's gotta count for something.

Mounted the BOVs a lot lower this time.
You may notice a section of my upper rad hose is a piece of moly tubing, I'm at a bit of a loss for what to do here. I'd like to build hard line for the majority of the upper hose but I'm not sure the right route to go just yet.

Also built a mount for my expansion tank so it can hang in the drivers side area. Not fancy, but effective.
Still learning the right way to plumb a laid down setup like this.

Need to build rad hoses, find a throttle cable and run a line to the new map sensor and I can try firing this pile up again.

Just build it out of exhaust tubing (The upper rad hose). If you are concerned w/ rust because of the straight water that you'll probably run in the engine, you can build it out of SS,..(I'm using anti-freeze, so mines made out of mild steel) then use the appropriate silicone couplers and t bolt clampidoo's to hold it to each end.

No intercooler then?...must've been sometime ago that I missed your decision to either fuel it w/ methanol, or inject water/meth to cool it?..If you're intent is to fuel it w/ meth,..you don't need to worry about that upper radiator hose,......matter of fact, you don't need to worry about the radiator either.

No intercooler the then?
Sounds like stainless tubing is what I'll do then. Easy as anything I guess.

And in regards to the intercooler, or lack thereof, I'm just going to see how it goes.
The cheap Chinese intercooler was going to be the furthest thing from efficient (I already knew that) and the addition of the outlaw valance made it even less efficient. It was essentially just taking up space and adding weight/complication. So it got tossed.

At this time, I only plan the run ethanol. No interest in meth injection or trying to build a fuel system for and rely on running on strictly methanol.

I spent a great deal of time researching other combos and reaching out to notable racers also doing what I'm doing and am very optimistic it'll achieve what I'm after for now.
Shouldn't have to push these turbos very hard to get it where I want it and that'll keep some heat out of it as well.

The other thing to consider is how well it works in a blow-through application.

I fully realize that the way fuel is introduced in a carburetor is entirely different than it is in a port injected setup, and the resulting atomization is what allows for it to run so much cooler.
But the truth of the matter is, we(the large majority of us without fancy equipment to test with) aren't really sure how much of an impact it makes on charge temps with EFI seeing as it's a bit difficult to measure in the combustion chamber. I guess individual EGTs would be the closest guess.
So sure, IATs in the runner are noticeably lower in a blow-thru app but I'm willing to bet they're closer than we think in the chamber.
Especially when you consider how much of that fancy atomized carb fuel puddles on the back of the valve just like it does with port injection.
I could be way off, I don't think I am, but I very well could be. We will just have to find out.

Now with all that said, I have plans to move to an a2w setup in what I'm calling "phase 2". And that cooler will sandwich between the intake base and lid. So the coldside I've built will not go to waste regardless.
And I've also talked to some guys who have built injectors into the charge piping to introduce ethanol (similar to meth injection) up stream and take advantage of that atomization we all dream of.
It's all on the table. Just trying to get phase 1 off the ground at this point.

I think I mentioned it in the thread earlier, but if I didn't, we are due to have our son at the beginning of October so that's where all my focus has been and will likely stay while I try to tackle my ever growing list of things that need done around the house.

Another trip to the parts store finally netted me the right combination of radiator hoses. Plan B is still stainless hard line but hopefully this works out.

Soldered on the plug for my new map sensor and yanked the intake off to tap a port for the feed line. Holley leaves the hole unthreaded as if you'll do something else with it.
The hi ram really is made like :poo: for the money.

Brass fitting is dedicated to the map sensor. Push lock line will feed the manifold on the drivers side head that everything else references.

Also killed a 4ft+ snake today that I've been hunting for the last 2 weeks. Killed a small one in the shop Sunday, but this big one was Moby Dick lol.
Anyone who's Facebook friends with me has witnessed all the snake fun I've had this year.

I would burn the shop and move....

Joe
Couple weeks ago a bird got in my shop and :poo: all over my car.
I went out around the side of the building to see where it had gotten in at and saw a 4-5ft snake coming in through the opening in the soffit.
IMG_0198.webp

Cut all the trees down on that side of th shop but could never find the snake.

Fast forward to Sunday and I came across this one in my shop
IMG_1293.webp

Maybe 2ft long, average for this area. I know they're "harmless" and I don't enjoy killing them but my wife is petrified of them and I always worry about my small dogs getting tangled up with one so when I see them, I get rid of them (they don't make me feel warm and fuzzy either).

So Monday the dogs are out in the yard, wife is laying out and I'm out in the garage messing with the car. I walked to the house to get something and I see a snake head sticking out of the stairs on the deck. I could tell it was the big one from my garage. It got spooked and backed under the deck.

Commence wife's panic attack and me pacing through the yard with a snow shovel while the neighbors watched with concerned faces.
No dice.

Wife comes home from work yesterday and calls me to say there's a snake in the yard.
It's under the tree next to where she parked and is just staring at her (menacingly I'll add )

A few strategic ninja moves later and

The lump you see is a whole bird.

Hopefully the one who crapped on my car

I feel your pain lol. Having a similar snake problem in my garage

I have a 5ft black snake around the outside of my house....his names " Lou ". He's safe here. A copperhead or cotton mouth would be a different story.

Nice head shots on those snakes, obvious you've done this before hahaha. I lived in southern Miss and in New Mexico for a while, F'n snakes everywhere...

Yeah, I'm not cut out for life down there lol.
Snakes and big ass spiders have been awful this year though. Gonna start carving notches in my snake shovel

When I was a kid, I must have had dozens of garter snakes as pets. Id catch em, keep em a few weeks and let them go. Used to catch a few big ones here and there...3 feet or so? Nowadays I catch them, show them off to the kids, let them handle them, and release in the woods away from the house. Wife is off in the corner having fits :)

I have run across an eastern rattlesnake once. That one I backed off of.

One of the (few) benefits of the great white north, No poisonous sh*t. Wolves and bears sure, but they are usually about as live and let live as I am so we respect each others turf so to speak. You've already seen how social wild animals can be...

More of a man than I. I picked this one up once it was dead and even that was a bit unsettling.
My little sister used to have hamsters. They taught me all animals can be assholes without much notice lol
