Waiting for the burnout vid!
Took the exxon valdez for a little ride today. I knew something was up when after a month of sitting outside I didn't have to add any coolent, it sat inside the new garage of a couple weeks and it left a puddle of coolant on the clean floor, go figuare, stopped at the bank, the post office, the accountants and picked up some stuff from harbour freight and slow riley's. Stopped by the shop for a minute and noticed a puddle of liquid under it. 
oh no not the timing cover finally spewing, nope. Heater hose at the back of the engine, loose clamp? Nah, tried that, must have a hole in the hose so it's time. I'm going to dig out all the stuff I've been stashing and fix this thing, can't put it off any longer!
I'll post a list of stuff to fix and a couple pics of the parts stash tomorrow.

Damnit!! Well if a leaking car ain't enough now the dump truck won't crank. Checked the battery juice and I got 12.5 but I didn't isolate and check individually, took the one I thought may be shorted, no I didn't load test it in the truck I just guessed since the top of the battery was wet it was the offending one but when I tested it at the shop it is good. Knew I should have brought both of them with me, oh well, I'm gonna grab the bajb (big assed jump box) and hope I can get it fired up to get back to the shop.

Dump truck update.
stuck the battery back in, still nothing. Not even a click. Connected the bajb on it and still nothing. Got vom out and started testing battery cables. Then I realized it's a ford with a starter solenoid! jumped it with a screw driver and it cranked right up! So is it the solenoid? Maybe, so when I got to the shop I was ready to finish checking the connections and wires but guess what? It cranks every time now 
so until it fails to crank again I'm not going to mess with it. I know the problem will likely be between the solenoid and the ignition switch. Meanwhile I will keep my screwdriver handy. And my vom too!
On another note, I have started getting my parts together for the work on the mustang.
I guess I have to think of a new name for it too.

I spent a couple hours replacing the non working and half burnt out shop lights in the old garage with some leds I got on sale at harbor freight. what a difference! Maybe I can find stuff now. I did hunt up the parts I've gathered over the last year or so to install on the exxon valdez, ported lower, shiny tubular upper (I know, I say I don't like shiny but why not, it may lead to sprucing up other things, we will see), new egr plate, roller rockers and valve covers. Other stuff I'll grab as needed, already have a few gaskets and plan (I say 'plan' we will see how it goes)to clean up the under hood wiring. Not doing a tuck, just a clean up and fix. I am also removing the electric cooling fan and replace the clutch fan and shroud. I may in the future put the electric fan back in but I will adapt it to the stock shroud(maybe, prolly not 
), oh and my P heads. I've been looking at ceramic coated long tubes but they are kinda expensive, looking at getting mine coated.
A lot of little things too, I have a feeling this will need a speed bump to keep it from rolling outta control, after all I do have an image to retain.

Replace the damned thing and screw a spare into the engine bay, directly next it.
The problem with Ford solenoids is that even the [good] ones were only hermetically sealed. That means that it archs every time it connects and disconnects. Carbon builds up on the contacts. Tapping on it or shorting it can remove chunks of that carbon. The fact that the solenoid stopped working and is now working is your 'built by Ford, 5 minute warning'.

Years ago I found an electric fan from a early 2000s Cherokee that fit the stock shroud almost perfectly.
Spent a few hours mounting it , it looked great, one issue though...it couldn't keep the engine cool !

IIRC mine is an old black magic fan, my car never overheated in traffic but the ac is inop, that's on the list this time around.

I used an early 2000s or late 90s jeep cherokee fan in one of my mustangs. It fit the fan shroud after some trimming on the jeep fan mounting points. That thing worked for me. It pulled a bunch of amps when it first started spinning. Ditched it for my contour fans. If it would fit I'd go back to a stock clutch fan.
Bringing back General Karthiefs thread because he gave me the idea on this post. Redoing my lights on my mirror according to the General. These bulbs are at walmart #194 LEDs what do you think for $6.85 X 2. Or look some more , I want bright and cool. I know it says blue. They have white.

Forget it Amazon has 6000 s 2 for $12 super bright LEDs . Ill take a picture of the package and the brightness tomorrow. Amazon will have them at my house in 10 hrs.
I learned a long time ago to keep an extra solenoid for my Fords in the glovebox... And a duraspark box back when I had one of those, the aftermarket Duraspark boxes from the parts stores in the 2000s were hot garbage and the solenoids were worse.Dump truck update.

Still don't know what was wrong with it, been fine ever since. Only thing I can say is 'when it falls off I'll fix it'.
As for the Duraspark, it's a power stroker, I don't know where they would hide it. Same place they hide the spark plugs?
If they are Sylvania they are probably good, while your at it replace the tag light bulbs too,
Nah, Powersmokes, Powerjokes, Powerchokes, and Powertokes don't have Duraspark boxes, nor would any other Ford built after the 1980s. Duraspark was Ford's first attempt at electronic ignition.
I have the good one, 97 7.3 turbo. Never been chipped.
It is a little slow but will pull a house down the road all day long.
