I have y2k cobra wheels on my mustang with nitto 555 extremes on them. They are starting to wear really bad and i'm a broke college student. I'm wanting to buy some cheaper tires this time around. What are the major differences between 265-35-18's verses 245-40-18's. The 245's are way cheaper than the 265's but is it really worth paying the difference for them. I was thinking about getting the kumho supra tires in 245-40-18. Are these tires any good. Also how do you know which tire is lower profile? thanks

A 265mm tire is wider than a 245mm tire, the 265-35-18 tire has an aspect ratio of 35, which is the height of the tire, from the bead to the tread in relation to the width (35% high as it is wide). A 45 series tire would be 45% as high as it is wide, but it isnt as wide, so off the top of my head, I dont believe they are any taller, if much taller at all.

Kumho's are decent weather tires, it all depends on the kind of driving you do.

The 245/40/18's are slightly taller than the 265/35/18's, but only by less than half an inch.

Here's a good comparison chart that will give you all of the variables.

One problem you may run into with the 245's is that if your rims are 9" wide, you may find yourself scraping the curbs more often. Not a lot of protection for the rim lip with that narrow of a tire.
