Tired for '98 cobra rims

How wide of a tire can I put on a set of stock 1998 Cobra rims (real deal SVT, not reproductions)? Right now they have 245/45's but as we all know, wider is better. Whats the widest tire i could use?

i wanna say i heard the biggest is 275's but thats is what my buddy told me when i was buyin tires for my car. might be able to go bigger but im not sure ifyou can

The 98s are an eight inch rim so a 275 would be pulled in a bit. 245-265 is the suggested tire size.
