TPS has no voltage.

Hey guys, thanks again for helping me out. Ok, I fixed the problem. It looks like the ground wire was shorted to power. I ran a new ground wire to pin 40 of the ECU. TPS voltage works perfectly now. I was reading 0.81 volts then adjusted to 0.96. Thats wayy better then 0.02, LOL. Anyway, I think I know what the problem was. When I did the mass air conversion, the last step was to pick a ground at either pin 40 or something else, so I picked pin 40. I realized that when I was ready to splice my new wire in and found that other one there. I feel like a fool :/ Since this fixed the TPS problem (and I didnt have a CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON), I'm sure that same ground going to the other sensors like AIR CHARGE and such is grounded. So im just going to do what I did with the TPS to the other sensors. So, THANK YOU GUYS SOO MUCH AGAIN!!

p.s. Does anyone know where the Air charge sensor is? I tried looking for it but no luck, Thanks!

You are right, with no ground, the green wire will float up to Vref, at 5 volts or very close. Adding another ground wire is one way to fix this problem. Just be sure you run the wire either to the computer power ground (computer pins 40 & 60) or the body power ground by the battery.

Sometimes the computer will burn open the trace on it's circuit board that connects pin 46 to pins 40 & 60, which are the power grounds. Then you can't dump the codes either.

Most of the time there are other things that lose the ground at the same time. The EGR, TPS, ACT, ECT and MAP all share the same ground. Anytime you have a ground problem with one sensor, it is a good idea to check the ground on all of them.

Check the Signal Return (signal ground) at the 10 pin connectors. It is pin 1 in the white connector.

Hi guys, I am having the EXACT same problem. I have an '88 Coupe that I did a MAF conversion on after one too many mods to the SD system caused some driveability issues. Anyway, after upping the idle a bit I attempted to set the TPS and got almost no voltage (.0002). This post was an incredible find for me and I can't wait to try the things listed in it. I have one question though. If sometimes the computer will burn open the trace on it's circuit board that connects pin 46 to pins 40 & 60, which are the power grounds, is that a fatality for the ECU or can that be overcome by running a new ground wire for the TPS? Lastly, if I have the ground in pin 40 would it help to move it to 60 or would it be a waste of time due to the possibilty of the burned trace on the circuit board? Would a jumper wire connecting the wires going to pins 40 & 60 help? I have a 1 year warranty on my ECU and can replace it if necessary.
