Vortech Problem

Hi all,

I'm having a problem with my car since i have installed a new Vortech V3 setup. I brought it to get dynoed after it was put on and only made 15 more horsepower than i did before(went from 265 to 280) and I should be making much more than that. it makes 6 lbs of boost. It runs well (doesn't cut up and the a/f is perfect). Any ideas?

Setup is as follows:

Vortech V3-SC
42lb injectors
90mm Lightning MAF
SCT 4 Bank
UPR Boost pipe
Autolite 103's gapped to .035
BBK 255 in tank

Maybe a slipping clutch?

Are you actually seeing full boost? sounds like a tuning issue.

yea its making 6 lbs at the manifold... so the supercharger is doing what its suppose to... as for the tune, my tuner setup the fuel and timing so im not so sure about that... i know it ended up with 23* total timing and base is set at 10*...

Sounds like a trans/rear end problem. If you're sure the motor is making the power and the tune is right, there's obviously some reason it's not making it to the ground

i would think that if it was clutch related it would be making some noises or something, no? I know the rear is fine because it was rebuilt and leaves nice dual patches... i'm starting to wonder if it's in the tune as well...

That was my next thought. if its making boost then it could be a clutch or converter issue. by the way what does your A/F look like under boost?
Either way it goes you should see. roughly 10WHP per 1# boost through a vortech. are you sure the parking break was'nt still set? just playin

as it turns out, i guess it would be important for your tuner to know the difference between 10* after TDC and 10* before TDC; which also would explain why he burned the finish off my $350 headers...

so... is he giving you a discount or compensating you for time and money? are giving him a fit?

well there was an offer to retune it for free but i think i've learned my lesson... ill be going elsewhere next week...
