what brand/style cat-back should i get for the 01 GT?

ok well i promised my wife (who bought the car for me) that i wouldnt go nuts on the bolt-ons, but keep it to the styling of the car, but my balls arent completely in her jar, so i convinced her to "let me" get a cat-back exhuast system. so what does everyone think? i have always been a fan of magnaflow. but even then, magnaflow cat backs have 2 options...the "magnapack" cat back, or the regular cat-back system. help me out with some suggestions and experiences as to what sounds the most tasteful, along with the best performance. thanks everyone...:D

I would get bassani or borla personally. magnaflow has a good price just don't prefer the sound.

also you should decide if you ever want to do anthing to the midpipe. there is more volume level in changing the midpipe than that catback.

for example if I was not changing the midpipe I would get a very loud exhaust. bassani race, borla stinger, magnapack, LM

if I was changing the midpipe I would go a little more mild on the exhaust unless you just are a louder is better type person. I don't like have loud slow cars. If you can't run a 12sec pass it like noise pollution to run no cats and packs.

Hey Stryker. I just installed an SLP catback with Loudmouth 2 mufflers. For the price and the ease of installation you can't go wrong. Not to mention if you don't like the mufflers, the clamps make a switch a piece of cake. And they sound great. I also noticed some power increase in the mid and high rpm's. Not a lot but some. My 2 cents..

If you are only doing the cat-back with no future plans for a mid-pipe change and you are concerned with getting the most HP then I would go with a straight thru design muffler/resonator. Also if you want it loud then the SLP LM1's. If down the road you see a mid-pipe coming, then I would go with Magnaflows. I haven't heard the SLP LM2's yet but I am assuming they are like the Magnaflows in decibel volume.

Borla is a great option. Almost went there myself.

Another thing to consider, if you can drop the 600 bucks on the Borla, I decided to get the Mac cat-back and an O/R Prochamber for almost 700. Not as good as quality at Borla, but got more bang for my buck, and sounds mean as hell.

I'd go with a Bassani (personal preference) but the Magnapacks and Borlas are also good choices. Nothing enhances the sound of an aftermarket cat-back system like an aftermarket mid-pipe. The stock mid-pipe is just too tame with all the cats it has. Work on your wife for the mid-pipe. Tell her it increases mpg and car value.:nice:

as you can see it's all personal preference, I have the magnaflow catback, not magnapacks, and I like it a lot. I am guessing your wife is not going to want a lot of drone and an exhaust that is too loud, but I could be wrong. The magnaflow has excellent performance and is not overly loud until wot, than it screams, IMO

It is silly for us to recommend a catback for you since we will all post our personal preferences. I'd go to mustangexhaust.com and listen to some combos. Don't worry about horsepower on the catback as the difference from one catback to the next is minimal.

Like hotrodnut said.....If there are no plans for a new mid-pipe, I would go with a more aggressive catback...magnapacks, borla stingers, or the slp lm1's. That is if your getting the system mainly for sound. If you are planning on a midpipe later, these systems can be VERY loud, especially if you chose an O/R pipe.

The performance gained from any of these systems on a stock car would be minimal so it all comes down to the sound. If your wife has you on a strict budget, you could just weld in some Flowmaster 2 chambers and add an X or H pipe for about the same $ you would spend on the catback. Then down the road you could say, "But honey, the exhaust pipes are rusting through and if I get a new stainless system it will never need to be replaced."

I have FRPP shorties, Bassanni catted x, and the magnaflow CB. I LOVE the sound. When just driving around the tone is low and rumbly w/o being obtrusive, but when its time to go fast (and sound fast) and the pedal gets smashed to the floor, the car screams.

Ahhh...you remind me of myself convincing the wife I need a shifter and that is it. I actually believed that myself at the time. The shifter then became the catback....then the midpipe...then pulleys...then the tb/plenum...tuner....each time she gets more pissed. Good luck bud.
