Other components would be a custom ground FTI cam, and either a ported Cobra intake or an Edelbrock RPM. I was thinking TFS Street Heat, but brands dont matter to me.

AFR 205's, TW 205 CNC'd from Summit, ported Canfield 195's, TFS Hi-port Stage 3. Victor EFI, TFS-R intake port matched. I would think the cam would need to come in at .565/.575, 232/240 dur @ .050 and a 112LC for NA. easy 400/400 @ the RW NA on pump gas.

All the intakes u mention r too small to make the most power.

how much power ya wanna make? what power range?

TFS stuff is good, edelbrock is good, afr is pricey, but makes good power.

Note: please search, this SAME question was posted like 3-4 weeks ago!

afr 185's, victor jr's, ported TW. I'd use a holley or an rpm II. An rpm with a ported lower will work ok too. I've seen 400+ rwhp with guys running a ported rpm intake with afr 185's and a hitech custom cam. They were 347's though, the 331 would obviously make less.

I'd build a 347 since its the same price and more power.

The only thing that scares me away from the 347 are the wrist pins, and their notority of snapping. Further on down the line, when I get out of college, I plan on putting a turbo on it. And figure, might as well get the engine mods out of the way.

And if the intakes I list are too small, then what should I use? Or should I just stay with a 306, since this is going to be my daily driver?

If you plan on doing a turbo I hope you're not using a stock block! You also need to decide how reasonable this turbo idea is. That will be the determining factor in what compression pistons you get.

I have yet to hear/ see any wrist pins snapping on 347's. You'll hear a lot of bullsh it about 347's usually from people who never had their hands on one ;)

I'd recommend staying n/a but thats my opinion. I'd buold a n/a 347. You can make 400rwhp easily and be perfectly daily driveable. Afr 185's or victor jr's would be perfect for you.

Hmm, ok I'll keep that in mind. And as for my block, no, I'd either be using an R302 block, a Dart Iron Eagle, or a DSS Bullet Level 20. Whichever I can find cheaper when I'm in the market.

I'd still feel more comfortable with the 331 though, just knowing that problems with the 347 have arisen before scares me away from it. Especially since it'll be my DD. I can deal without those 16 c.i., and drive a turbo'd 331 8).

Edit: Also, I'd be going for a stock comp ratio of 9.1:1 for the turbo...

For the 331 run something like the AFR 205, Trick Flow High Port Stage 3 or Ported Victor Jr's. Stay away from the Cobra and RPM intakes. These intakes are not big enough. If this car is a daily driver why not rebuilt the stock motor and while you are in school save for a bad a$$ 331 turbo motor.

DSS Level 20 block is not even comparable to a SVO R302 or Dart IE. The R is good to 1500hp, the Dart to 2000hp and the DSS level 20 ???. There is nothing u can do to a stock 302 roller block to keep the valley from splitting when u go over 500rwhp period.

The AFR 205's r not emission legal. FTI sells a set of AFR 185 emission legal heads, they close to the 205's, they r called the 185 stroker series. Holley Systemax ll or RPM ll port intake matched, Comp Cam XE274HR or FTI custom. 375-400 @ the RW, NA on pump gas. 9:1 comp to throw a blower or turbo on later.

For you guys reccommending a Stage 3 Highport, what exacty is a Stage 3...what do they flow, what are the specs?

Have you guys ever used a highport head on a street based NA 331?
