I want to and need to put a different intake on my 85 GT what is a good all around intake? Im going to be using AFR heads and a TFS stage 1 cam and running nitrous down the road Right now i have all the emissions stuff off and this intake has the passages throwing Exhaust heat and fumes into the intake so i want to get rid of it....Any opinions on which one to go with?

Personally the only intake i'll ever run on an engine that sees street use is the Wieand Stealth....period. It's the best duel plane intake on the market...don't believe the Air Gap hype.

If you're building more of a strip only car i'd go with a Victor Jr, but using one of those on the street is a total waste because they breath clear up to 8k RPM and you'll give up significant bottom end vs. the Stealth, and the Stealth flows from idle to 6k+ RPM so they'll still kick ass at the strip.

If all that's not enough, the $175.95 price on Summit should seal the deal.

By comparison, the Air Gap is $254.95.

Cool thanks for the info...I can get the stealth intake form a speed shop i deal with in town for..160..00...I buy alot there ...lol...Will this intake fit under the hood with my stock dual snorkle? Always should i ditch the 1 inch phenoilc spacer with that intake? Stupid question my edelbrock carb will fit that intake right? im pretty sure it will...Also when changing out the intake i want to do this quickly because the car is my Daily...do i have to remove the Dizzy?

Yes...ditch that spacer, you won't need it with this intake as it's already a "high rise" duel plane. As for fitting under the hood i really can't say...i've been running the hood scoop ever since i got the intake. I wanna say that you probably won't be able to use the duel snorkel anymore...it's gotta be close.

What i can do is go out and look and see how close the breather is to my hood before it comes up into the opening under the scoop and i'll get back to ya.

Actually you mentioned you're using a 1 inch spacer and you clear the hood right? If you're good now then i'm almost certain you'll be ok. I'll measure my stock intake and measure the Stealth and see if the Stealth is more than 1 inch taller.

Thanks that would be great yeah i have the stock intake now i have a gasket 1 inch spacer gasket edelbrock carb and stock intake and i still think i can go a little higher before it hits the hood...:) maybe

stealth all the way. I had one with a one inch spacer under the factory hood of my capri. It had the braces cut out tho. And yes, that was with the duel snorkle intake.

Thanks for the info...So the stealth is a good performance intake? Will i notice a difference over my stock intake ...even with the slight mods i have on my car now?

The first big mods i did to mine when i got it was the Stealth and Holley 650dp...it was like night and day. The biggest gains were from about 3500rpm up. The stock intake makes pretty good torque but if you have headers and a nice exhaust you're gonna feel gains throughout.

Actually, looking at your mods, you pretty much have the identical setup mine was about a month ago (aside from the carb) and i ran my best time with the stock heads and cam which was 13.82 at 99.98mph, and i was still running 2.1 60' times and spinning bad off the line. I think it could've gone 13.40s with slicks.

Yeah i have the edelbrock 600 cfm now..i had the 650 cfm edelbrock but it had some problems...I ahve Mac long tubes,Off road H-pipe and Mac cat back im replacing the mufflers tho to Flowmaster super 44's with dumps and Tail pipe going to be all custom made...so i can close the dumps and run the tails when i want it queiter...lol...I have an accel coil, wires bumped timing...no emissions stuff at all...So i think the intake will help a little..Oh yeah i do have a better mech fuel pump to its an carter HP pump...and i have an edelbrock Air fule Gauge to tune this sucker when i get it running right...so i can jet it for the best performance...I cant wait to throw in gears too...now thats another story do i go with 3.55's or 3.73's ,.....lol...

Well, for 4 years now i've thought i had 4.10s because that's what i was told when i bought the car....i never bothered to check but wouldn't you know it, they're 3.73s. I've been really happy with the gear so i'd say get 3.73s. I'm curious now if i would like 4.10s but i was actually looking to step down to 3.73s when i *thought* i had 4.10s so i think i'll stay where i'm at.

My problem has always been traction, even on the drag radials. I really need to get control arms and new shocks and struts. I love drag racing but really i'm going for more of a road racing setup so i may sacrifice my 1/4 times for better cornering. (don't know if you missed it but i added some stuff to that post you quoted).

I saw your other post ...Yeah my car feels pretty quick...I was told by the shop i need GEARS bigtime...He said i will see a nice gain if i do gears...Im thinking the stealth intake...and then doing my gears, plus the rear suspension stuff that he wants me to do like subframes...upper and lower A-arms...weld in the battle boxes...new cobra posi unit...31 spline axles and some drag radials...i think this car would move ok...Im think doing the rear and intake and then squirt it a 100-150 shot i might be were i want to be without tearing into the motor...well i will but if i can get maybe high 12's out of it on a stock motor and some laughing gas i think that would be cool....no?

P as in GT40P heads that came off the '97 1/2 and newer 302 Explorers. Do a search, there's TONS of cool info on here about those.

I measured the intakes today....i really would've liked to be able to measure them from the flat spot on the bottom to the top where the carb bolts on but both were on engines so i measured from the rear passenger side bolt hole closest to the carb, and by my measurements the Stealth is almost exactly 1 inch taller than the stocker. Now, you said you're running a 1 inch spacer so you should have no problems. Of course there could be some difference in how high that bolt hole is, but i don't think it's very much at all.

Also, i peaked through my scoop on my hood and the breather isn't up above the hood yet so i don't think i really need the scoop to clear the breather. I'd say you'll be safe.

Something occurred to me that i thought i should mention about this....before you button everything up, put your breather on and see how much of the breather stud is sticking out above the breather lid. You don't want ANY more than absolutely necessary. I remembered because i was flipping through pics and saw a pic of my old stock hood where i closed it and put a nice nipple dint in my hood because the breather cleared but the stud came up through too far and hit the hood. You may have to cut it down some.
