What year Explorer do i get the motor from?

my engine just snapped a rod, i think. What year exploror engine should i look for? i want the ones with the gt40p's? thanks

97 and up I believe, there was a mid year model change in either mid 96 or mid 97... that is when they came with them. They did switch to the 4.6 somewhere along the line, but I don't know when. Don't forget, the mountaineer came with it too.

I had a 97 5.0 Exlporer. Don't forget to ditch that cam in favor for something else. It was made not to rev. I think in 99 they changed motors.

Joe, they came with 5.0's before that too... but they didn't have the GT40P heads. I didn't know if that's what you meant.

this is what happined: i went through the deep puddle, the car died. I was like oh dam maby the distribitor....so i tried to fire it up, and it was not turning over, sorta like seized (hydro seized) So, next try, the car fired up, and idled liek it was running on 4 cylnders, then i tried to give it some gas, and CLANK KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK so i shut it right off. Now its sitting in my driveway. Whould i pull teh valve covers, maby its something with teh valves? anyone?

oh, and im about to call the j/y's just waiting on a reply of what year explorer should look for. This is great, and just yesterday a dog bit a hole in my front tire. and my driver widow is stuck down.

i just called the j/y. Its a 97, they have for $650, with 55k. How can i be sure that its the gt40p style engine? ty

like i said before you need to get the motor opend up and see whats wrong....could be something minor that doesnt require motor replacement, or any of the hassle/stress your putting yourself through....
