Who changed/unbolt tranny off of their cars??

If its a T-45, I know that you can actually undo 4 bolts at the bellhousing and thats pretty much it. If you want to pull everything, heres what needs to come out...

Remove the shifter, and I was told to put something to keep the clutch pedal up.
Driveshaft.
Disconnect 02 sensors.
Unbolt H pipe.
Unbolt starter- there are 3 bolts, 1 of which is pretty hard to get to. You will need a LOOONG extension. Dont forget to disconnect the battery.
Disconnect the clutch cable. There is a 1/4" bolt that holds the cover in place.
Support the transmisson, and unbolt the crossmember that supports it.

After that is all done, basically just remove the 7 bolts from the bellhousing and wiggle the trans out.

If its a T-45 and you are JUST replacing the trans and not the clutch, you can save alot of time by just pulling the driveshaft, the crossmember, and unbolting the 4 bolts that hold the bellhousing and the rest of the trans together.

I would go into more detail, but I have to go to work. I just did the clutch on a 00 GT just a couple months ago, and its pretty easy. I had a lift, but I had the trans out, replaced clutch, pressure plate T/O bearing and Pilot bearing, and put trans back in; took me about 4 hrs. My first time too.
 
Well, starter, LT are already out. H pipe is out. And it is T-45

I need to start doing everything else to get tranny out. Now, i.m not sure exactry whats wrong with tranny. So i like to get entire thing out - bell housing and all. But if i can disconnect belhousing from tranny itself., might make getting belhousing out easier, as less bigger, and bit lighter. Butisn't bellhousing bolted from inside of bellhousing???

?!?!?! Where is this 4 bolts? I looked at it, and i see no bolts that is bolted from outside of belhousigng.
And also, when u get home tonight, can u tell me more detail instruction as to where al the darn botls are????

SPEC is a very good, reputable company. theyre friendly to deal with (though contact was limited) and i always hear good things. i had a few problems with my SPEC clutch, but im 90% sure the problem wasnt with the product, but was with the shop doing the labor :mad: 13k miles on my SPEC stg 2 and it still grabs HARD

OK, the 4 bolts I am referring to are pretty easy to see, unless I am mistaken and they really arent there, but if I remember right, they are. They should be right where the belhousing narrows down and the transmission basically becomes the same size all the way to the rear. If you cant find them or they arent there, thats ok. I didnt remove the transmission that way anyway, so I couldnt give you as detailed instructions.

OK, starter is out, headers and H pipe are out, so theres a start.

You need to remove the driveshaft, obviously. There are 4 12mm 12pt bolts at the rear differential that need to be removed. After those are out, then you can easily slide the other end out of the transmission. CAUTION: Unless you have a spare yoke to insert in the rear of the transmission, you will leak your trans fluid out. You either need a spare yoke, or you need to drain the fluid via the drain plug on the passenger side, near the middle at the bottom.

After the driveshaft is out, then mostly you just need to start unhooking some things. You need to disconnect any sensors that would prohibit the transmission from coming down. You deffinately dont want to rip some wires out. These are basically just 02 sensors, which you probably have disconnected already.

Before you take the driveshaft out, remember to remove the shifter if you havent already done so. Put the trans in neutral (if you can), otherwise you will not be able to rotate the driveshaft which will make some of those bolts almost impossible, if not impossible, to remove. Also, I was told to put something under the clutch pedal when it is all the way up to keep the cable in adjustment when you disconnect it, so do that as well.

Back under the car, on the driver side there is a sheetmetal cover near the front of the trans that covers where the clutch cable connects to the fork that engages/disengages the clutch. You need a 1/4" socket I believe - I know for a fact it is a standard size. Every other size needed for the removal is metric. Once you have the cover removed, you can pull the cable to get some slack, and slide the ball end out of the fork. There is also a thin clip that holds it in place just a little further to the front of the car. Remove that as well.

After all above is done, you should have everything out of the way - shifter removed (basically just the handle), driveshaft, h-pipe, starter, clutch cable, sensor wires. The only thing you have to do now is unbolt the crossmember that supports the rear of the transmission. Be sure to have some sort of support for the trans when this removes, or you will put ALOT of weight on the bellhousing, which could cause damage. Once the crossmember is out, you just need to remove the 7 bolts that hold the bellhousing to the engine. There should be 4 on the driver side, 3 on the passenger. I think they are 14mm. All except the top 2 will be easily accessible. To get to the top 2 bolts, you can lower the transmission slightly but still supporting the weight. After doing so, they are easilly accessible with a long extension.

Once all 7 are out, there should be nothing holding the transmission on. It might take a little bit of prying to break the bellhousing away from the engine, but not much. You will know right away once it has pulled away.

There really is no straight shot way of getting it all the way out. Space is very tight in the tunnel, and you just have to make small adjustments, and wiggle it around. Once the input shaft is out and has cleared the pressure plate, you can lower it down and your done. If you have any specific questions just ask, I'll check this again later.

its the whole kit, TOB, Pilot Bearing, Pressure Plate and Clutch Disc. mine was ~$320 i think. i may be way off. i bought mine through the shop doing the work, since they deal with SPEC all the time.

Dude, i owe you big time!!! y was wondering about 7 bolts. i counted only 3 or 4 that i can see as it sits right now, but i might be missing it. I'm pickin up tranny from guy in NJ tomorrow, and that'll give me better idea of where the bolts are.
I took the DS out already. clutch fork cover is out(whicgg i think it was 12mm BTW). just have to disconnect back up light switch and other connecters, and drain oil. Which BTW, when i pulled yoke out, it didn't leak at all. drip or two from slip yoke. I wonder if that means oil is low, and caused this distruction...

So this is where I am now. wish me good luck tomorrow, as I hope i'm gonna yank the tranny out by end of tomorrow or sunday at the latest. then i gotta order clutch... were is good place to order SPEC??
 
i wouldnt do spec. its either a hit or miss type of clutch . my buudy has one in his cobra and it chatters like hell. i would recommend mcleod mine is awsome adn have never had a problem wiht it at all.

Its hard to know what your talking about unless I'm actually there. If the 3 or 4 bolts you are counting thread into the block, then yes you just dont see the other ones. If you are counting 4 that thread into the bellhousing, then you are seeing all of them; those are what hold both halves of the transmission together. On the T-45, you can separate the part that houses the gears from the bellhousing.

When you took the yoke out, it probably didnt leak because the trans may be level. When you start playing around with it and adjusting the angles to get it out, prepare for a mess.
