Will I need a tune???

im about to drop in a 331 longblock, tf heads, b31 afm cam, 9.2:1, sc-trim. i have 42 lb injectors and i sent out the maf to get recalibrated for this setup. what else do i need to do to make it run good. will i definitely need a custom tune and who does it near westchester ny. can i get away with a tweecer and is it hard to use. i have basic auto knowledge. any help would be greatly appreciated

I would have to say you might get it to run while accelerating but I don't think it will idle or cruise with those large inj's

Tweecer is not hard to use at all

Knowing why you would want to make a change is the challenge

To be completely in control of your tune you will also need a wide band to get your WOT fuel ratio like it needs to be

I agree tweecer or a QH both will make you happy in the long run. It does take a while to get the hang of how it all works.

I do think if you don't want to tune your self you should really get it proffesionally tuned you will be happy in the long run. It will also last much longer. Just my thoughts.

Definitely get the car tuned. Like Grady said it is not going to have any sort of driveability without it. As far as doing it yourself or taking it somewhere I guess it comes down to your future plans with the car. Unless you plan to change your combo around often there really isn't much of a point to get a tweecer. Especially if you are apprehensive about learning all the ins and outs of it. If you take it somewhere they can put a perfect tune on the thing and you are set for good. Keep in mind even if you do switch up your combo you will already have a chip and could get a retune for couple hundred bucks if needed. I'm am not saying that going the tweecer route is a bad idea its just unless someone really enjoys playing around with their tuning on their own or plans to frequently change combos causing need for a retune, it really doesn't make much sense to get one.

Myself and many others have posted tons of stuff

Search as far back as 2 to 4 years ago

You can find info on all three 94-95 forums

I also got some basic stuff on my site

The info is based upon an older version of software
but
The info is still valid about basic possibilities

That car isn't going to be too streetable without a tune. If you are apprehensive about tuning it yourself, it will run fine with a mail order chip. It's a lot cheaper than getting it dyno tuned, and it's almost as good. JMS Chip & Performance Center

I don't really feel like playing with the tweeter stuff. So for my 94 what would be the best way to get a tune. Order a custom chip, take it some where or what.

At the end of the week it will have a 331 in it with different gears.

If the ordering a chip is the best way to go, what kind of chip where should i get one. If taking it some where is best, then i am **** out of luck because i don't know anywhere in Michigan lol.

Where in Michigan are you? I'm in Grand Rapids. Take it to Alternative Auto on the east side. I was there a few weeks back and Lidio does VERY nice work. You will be happy you went there. Alternative Auto Performance - Mustang and Ford Performance Experts

I tried calling that place a few times an no answer

How much does it cost to get a tune from there.

sorry i don't mean to double post. But i talked to one performance shop and said they couldn't tune my car with the stock computer. Is that true. If thats the case what do i need to do then.

Don't worry about them not answering. As far as I know they never do cause Lidio is usually on the dyno. He will however call you back very quickly. One time he called me back within 10 minutes another it was a couple hours, but he apologized. He is very professional. It will be between 500 and 600.

Regarding the computer that makes sense if are trying to make tons of power, but I can't see it being in question for under 500 rwhp. That's basically what he told me. Lidio will take care of you. Call him up and leave a message and make the trip over there. You won't be dissapointed.

JMS Chip & Performance Center. Tell them what you have, and they will mail you a very decent chip for a reasonable price. The car will run just fine with a chip from these guys.

Really? i see they cost like 274 with up to 4 tunes. I only want 1 tune.

So they will run fine, eventually i want to get a custom good tune, but right now i just want my car to run fine.

Building the engine took a lot of my money. So i would rather spend 275 instead of 600.

As i said i don't know if i can afford the custom tune right now. I just built a new motor from top to bottom, getting the card painted, rims, an some other things.

So unless my car will run fine without a tune until i build some more cash up, i am going to need a tune, an 275 seems better then 600 at this moment.

I absolutely understand. I would just highly encourage you to do it at some point. What you have to understand about a mail order chip is that in order for them to make a tune on a car they aren't hooked up to, there is alot of guessing involved. And in order for them not to go around killing motors and wanting a good buffer zone to make sure this doesnt happen they have to make the tune very conservative and not necessarily ideal. If that isn't the case then they are just stupid, but I am quite sure it is.

So what I am saying is, that is not a bad idea for now, but definitely plan on doing a full dyno tune in the future. Also, is the mail order chip an SCT? Assuming it is, that is going to save you some money if you go to Lidio down the road anyways.

if you don't have the money to do it right the first time, how will you have money to do it 2 times?
so for example you don't have 600 now, but you would spend 875 by the end of it. you would spend the 275 now then 600 later. if you have the 275 put it away and wait till you have the 600 your almost half way there.

Lidio gives a 100 dollar or so break if you already have a chip. But yeah, still wasting money.
