Most cars are an extension of its owner. When you make the comment that S197=teh ghey then it seems ..... it dont matter mang. You just come off as someone who loves to bash the new platform
And so what if another person spends the extra cash to get something that is mabey a bit rarer then the run of the mill stuff. That just gives the car some value to the collector. Look how much a 67 GT500 is worth compared to a 67GT fastback. And yeah, back then a guy could save the coin and soup up his GT and make it faster and better then the Shelby but again, which one is wort 6 digits now?
What about a 93 Cobra vs a 93 GT? Not much performance difference but whats worth more now? A clean stock Cobra or a GT with a 331 and a blower and a full griggs suspension? Its still the Cobra. So knocking something cause it has a few extra pieces from the factory and because some older person who can afford it and buys it cause its what he wants and dont want to have to worry about thoes add ons eaither messing up his warrenty or not fitting right then more power to him, it his choice.
And I kinda agree with you. I have respect for the person that can go out and get the toy he wants and pay someone to maintain it for him. Hell he still got a nice ride. And me being the kind of person that does all his own work I have ALOT of repect for people who do their own stuff. But having respect for someone that gets dirty and works on their stuff and not having respect for someone who may have the same car but pays someone else to work on it for him dosent make any sense to me.

Just seems you have alot of hatred for a car that is not only nice but is also a Stang. Us being a Stang community should have more respect for our fellow stangers. Eaither that or we should go to a Bow tie forum and talk about how much better his LS1 is then that guys LT1.

The more I look at it the more I agree with Five Speed. Your Fox is just so nice and as someone else pointed out I bet the new one would require car payments, no?

As a DD the S197 would be nicer, ie more comfertable, but you Fox just has some personality to it

I am in your shoes right now but because of a different reason. I have a 87' Fox that I have put ALOT of time and money into and was my DD for many years and gave me un-rivaled service. Right now it is in the garage getting a engine overhaul and a full H/C/I upgrade while I drive my F-150 to work everyday (also payed off). In Feb I plan on buying a newer 'Stang and I have planed this for a year now but my wife is being a kill joy about owning both. I am not a huge fan of the S197 platform but I say if if makes you happy than go for what you want. I would keep the Fox if you can afford it because if your like me your attached to it and you will surly regret selling it!

not to mention honestly the two cars side by side are like brothers....closest resemblance ive seen between a fox and sn197, maybe just the camera angles and the colorand vert etc.... but the sn197 aarent growing on me except the gt500's stock gt just look dated, the retro0new thing is played out already and i wasn never a fan. how can you recreate something that is good only because it is a classic? its like robbing all the people who had hard work keeping the classics clean and fresh....fox till i die, even if i sell mine for another. i will always have a fox, cause my car and me are just not clicking very well.lol....FOX FOX FOX....5.0!!!!!!!!!

I'm of the mentality that it's better to have a badass Fox and spend a car payment's worth in money every month modifying it than to buy a new car and spend money on car payments and not be able to modify it for fear of voiding the warranty. I can't leave well enough alone so a brand new car has just never appealed to me. I prefer to buy good quality used cars and just fix things myself and have that car payment money in my pocket. Older cars are also sooo much easier to fix.


This reminds me of a totally off topic thought....how people can spend money on a new Hybrid to save money on gas. Does anyone else find the ignorance in that? Spending money to save money? Also, which makes more pollution, the factories that are making the millions of hybrids, along with the eventual recycling or scrapping of those millions of hybrids, vs. all the Fox Mustangs that are still in existence?

Some of those cars will pay off their higher initial cost before the owner even makes the final payment, especially so with the rising fuel costs. The real issue, though, is that hybrids are a step in the right direction toward energy independence, and that is the root issue.

I dunno, for me, the old Fox is great, and nothing could ever take the place of my '86. So long as I always have a stable job though, I'll always have an updated DD. Safety, economy, and comfort just keep getting better through technology! You can't beat it. And other than the retro wave that the Ford designers rode with the S197 (that I'm not a huge fan of), I can't say I have any beef with the new cars.

But BTW, I nut over the GT/CS, even if it is just a prettied up GT!

it doesnt matter. i havent been a fan of any new car design other than the z06 since i can remember. when ford comes out with a hybrid foxbody retro design mustang i will prolly end up liking the s197 alot more and selling my fox and/or buy an LS1 f-body. I havent liked the s197's yet because they are the newest thing and the new craze. i just dont like them, underpowered, overweight, and trying to mix retro with new edge. it just doesnt do it for me. one of the main reasons i have hate for the new mustang is all these s197's that cover 5.0 Mustang Magazine piss me off alot because they are nothing special, just some gt that some shop bought, threw a paintjob and a blower on it, and then sold it to some poor schmuck who thought it'd be worth something in 20 years. there is nothing special about that to me, especially when they could be covering a beautiful fox that started out as a rusted 4 cylinder coupe in someones back yard that became a award winning show car foxbody.

to the op, i wouldnt trade in my fox for a 07 z06, or any new car.why? because i did all the work on my fox myself, theres alot to say for that. anybody with a checkbook and some credit can have a nice car, but can they all say "yes i did all this work myself?"

I do agree that the S197s seem like they could loose some weight, but these cars are also setting new standards with their safety ratings, so if it takes a few hundred extra pounds to get a 5-Star crash safety rating, and keep my white ass from being a red smear on the highway, so be it!

Under powered for this size and weight... that might be more accurate.

I know a lot of people with a lot of nice S197s. They are a different car than the fox, bottom line. You dont trade between the two, it is more or less cut and dry which one you prefer. Go drive an S197 and a fox, and then decide what YOU like.

Personally my brothers 96 is nice, but on those 75 degree sunny days, it's hard to be stomping around a little in a light fox body.

I wouldn't think you're a traitor because at the end of the day they are just cars. With that said, that car has way too much going on, and those wheels. I'm not big on the 197 Stang but I really like PoopDawg's. Very clean and tasteful.

Personally, I think that S197 looks like a Hot Wheels car. Too "boy racer" for me.

That is my biggest issue with the new cars: Overdoing the "zoom zoom" thing with the mods. I've seen a couple that have a set of wheels, a mellow cowl hood and lowering springs. They look great. When you put all the other **** on them, they get way overdone way fast.

I agree 10 fold... most of the new cars are way too overdone. We have an 06 GT at the house, car has springs, 18" wheels, ductail spoiler, and a Kaenan hood. I like subtle and tasteful, but most of the new ones are just way overdone.

Well I decided to pass on the S197 I appreciate all the responses and I still like the S197 but when I weigh out the 400.00 payment for so many years against a car that has been paid for and keeps on giving and asks for nothing in return but some occasional windex and armor all I gotta keep the fox.
