Build Thread '83 T-top Coupe - Welding Holes in My Rear

Got out to the yard today, the owner had to leave in an hour, so all I got was this. The fender is straight as can be!
I also got my new dash pad in as well!

Next Wednesday after work I'll be getting more panels, deck lid, right fender and the bumpers.

Off to the blaster tomorrow for the fender though.

What the hell???......Aren't you buying a whole car already? If the thing is so bad that you have to replace every single panel,....why not buy a better car, and just replace the roof with the T-top one from the car that you cant use anything on anyway?

Actually, pretty good. The intake manifold was surprisingly nice on the inside of it. The carb will start soaking Saturday sometime.

I'm a purist, no throwing a t-top on another coupe. This was born a t-top and will be the one I want to restore.

There's a challenge involved in this that I like. I'm going to take something fairly rough and make it nicer than it was new. I get a thrill from this. Maybe I'm a little psychotic, but I'm ok with that too. Being normal must really suck in my opinion.

BTW, for those that don't already know this.

To make your mouldings lay flat, remove the metal strip off the back, use a small torch or heat gun to soften the glue and take a pair of pliers and pull that off.

The picture shows the rear fender moulding with the strip already off and it shows the front fender moulding that still has it on. The rear was by far worse than the front one.

You'll want to use an adhesion promoter on the moulding before you put new two sided tape on it. 3M sells little packets with wipes in them that are perfect for that.

Seperate threads for me are like conversations, there was the thread that I found the blue car, then there's this thread where I'll make it run, and I was thinking of a build thread once the red car is finished.

It's your thread, you can do what you want.

I tend to browse from my phone via tapatalk. So when I come back to the forums and see titles have changed in my "recent" feed, it really confuses me as to what thread was about what in the first place.

That inside fender and door hinges look pretty damn good.

You restoring this to original appearance? Or making some changes?

I'm amazed at he condition of the body itself. Lots of surface rust though.

Quasi original appearance. I'm going to add a GT hood and scoop eventually. The chrome trim will be changed to a trim color I'm going to get. I'll tell more about it later after I can obtain some of this special effects paint.

All in all though, a stockish appearance.

For right now though, I'm just going to make it a decent looking driver, and then finish my red car. Once it's done, then the blue one will get it's upgrades, to include the drivetrain.

I tore down the fender this morning and dropped it off with the media blasters. I'll pick it up next Tuesday and rush it through the etch and primer phase.

I have to stop and get the carburetor bath after work tonight. I'll tear the carb down and dunk it in there for the weekend.

Btw, I got my door in it's final primer. It's nice and straight. Kona blue next week!
