kmember and front suspension question

Yes, I plan on wrapping a chain into the spring before I release the struts....
Not to confuse this with my above post about wrapping a chain or strap around the bottom of the jack to prevent the car from springing UP...
EDIT: NOT doing this way, just was talking about it....

I usually stand to the front of the car, put a wheel on the ground in front of me to protect my ankles, and use a 6-7 foot pole to pry the spring the rest of the way out. It usually pops, but never leaves the perch.
IF I can get the "new" spring compressor to work, I should not have any spring tension when I lower the lower Arm, correct?

The compressed spring in the spring compressor can obviously be dangerous as well, once it’s out of the car……. take care when releasing the tension.
Yes, never a dull moment with these things..... Thanks
Keeping my fingers crossed that this OTC spring compressor will work.....

Scrolled back in the thread to see the OTC spring compressor you were talking about...and I have the exact same spring compressor. It's the only one I could find that worked on my 94 Cobra clone to remove the stock springs. It's a good tool.

Thanks for passing that on....

Just the nut on top of the ball joint
The big strut attaching bolts I leave there
Every shop or garage should have a dead man
That way you chain it down tight, band the springs, lift the car up and pull the springs out
OK, I follow you now.... I had thought you removed the strut bolts first......

Well I am done screwing around with these spring compressors..... going to reinstall the engine to remove springs..... These spring compressors scare the hell outa me......

After spending too much money on spring compressors I gave up
The OTC one I think might have worked, but as a cranked down on it, it got almost too hard to crank on my 24" breaker bar.... Just didnt like it...
So I spend an hour last night reinstalling the 4 lug rotor/hubs ( sure glad I didn't throw them away) and spent this AM installing the motor so I have the weight to compress the springs and remove them.....
Yes, the engine is going to come back out, but that might take an hour or so.... Better than the two weeks fkn around with ordering compressor tools...
Here we go...

Can’t return any of the compressors?
Yes, I returned them all except the OTC.... I got it on a deal from Zoro around $100 off and it will go on the shelf with the "other" rarely used tools.... Too bad none of you are my neighbors, LOL.. I have more stuff than the rental place

So what if I leave the strut and ball joint on, wrap a chain through the spring and unbolt the A Arm from the back two mounting points , then lower it down from there??

That will work as well. You might find it hard to slip the bolts out though unless you find the right angle to relieve the tension.

I prefer unbolting the strut and letting the a-arm down with the Jack. It doesn’t shoot out, but just position yourself at the front of the car. You’ll likely need to prybar it out of the perch when it drops all the way down

I can't see any compression on the spring when I lift up on the lower a arm with the jack?? I expected to see some movement but it almost immediatly lifts the car off the jack stand?? Am I doing something wrong????
