the Ranchero disaster & Brand X update

got this to keep things cool, I was gonna paint it black but honestly the finish is pretty nice. Don't know what the coating is but it's a nice job, even on the inside of the tank. Really to pretty to paint and doesn't look too out of place. And it's 'made in china' don't recall seeing that on the web site but it was on the box it came in, no matter it looks good.
cleaned and painted the pieces that hold the rad down, took that raggedy convoluted harness cover off and replaced it with that DEI stuff I got, I like it, gonna look for some smaller diameter stuff so if anybody has any scraps of that DEI stuff in a smaller size let me know, I gots a couple old non-working sensors I'd be willing to trade :O_o:
Going back to the fan clutch stye cooling this time, I've known that this Black Majic electric fan was not big enough, it would be OK for a drag only car maybe, for the street nope :nono: . If anybody out there needs a cooling fan for the drag car here it is, built a wire harness of sorts for it too.

some day i'll learn how to size the pics so I'm not show'n off my footwear
A drawback of getting parts and piling them up for the build I never learned to check every one of them making sure it was the right part so I've gotten a couple wrong parts, ohh well, the latest is the plastic fan that bolts to the clutch, it's for an Aerostar van, I didn't save the old parts either well maybe I did for a while but it was so long ago it's gone now, I remember a discussion recently about saving old parts so I likely don't have the bolts to attach the fan to the clutch either.

Almost three months since update on this journey so time to fill in some blanks.

radiator stuff all mocked up, everything fits 'cept a screw that holds the lines for the condenser was poking the rad tank on that side, a little grinding with the 'death wheel' and space made :p just need to clean up that shroud and puke tank and screw it back together. Of course that was before the holidays :nonono: Got side tracked by you-know-who to put together wooden thingies she seen on pintrest or some craft site. oh,well got through the holidays alive and back at car/truck things.
Got fed up with that POS carb on Brand X, I hoped to get one on sale but they were out-of-stock for a while, finally got one a couple weeks ago, here's what a 70 year old 'atomizer' looks like:

swap a few parts over to the 'new' old one and ready to install right? Yeah, scope creep strikes again!!
Enter the oil puddle-in-the-intake manifold mystery.

:thinking:WTF?? this is a pretty tight little engine in this truck so what is going on??
A little head scratching and some visual investigation I found it was coming from the PCV that I installed to get rid for that oil leak called a flow tube, if you don't know what one is, I can explain it but honestly just Googlefu it. What I found is the valve, where I stuck it was too close to the block sides and is vacuuming up oil being slung around the crank case/oil pan, sooo i need to figure out what to do. I think I have an idea after remembering some pics of other PCV swaps on old junk. Funny how I can remember that stuff but not yesterday's lunch  anyway (he says in his best Ellen DeGeneres voice) gotta pull the intake/exhaust manifold cause the gasket is oil soaked, I went through a tote box full of crap that came with the truck and found a gasket set I can use :banana:a penny saved is a penny after all :nice: Found some things ya'll might be interested to see......MORE OLD CRAP!!!

not necessarily the contents but the names on the box. I remember those brands from when I was a kid and the local NAPA store was the only parts house besides the stealership you could get automotive parts from, blast from the past eah?
I'll be back later, I gotta find a carb insulator cause the one on the truck is cracked, OH, found a 'new/old' water pump in that box of junk, still need to get a new radiator and look at the condition of the distributor one of these days, you may find the vac advance kinda comical on these old engines, I'll post that here too if y'all are interested, if not, too bad, my thread, my stuff, I rule
You can always turn the 'channel' or whatever they call it in the 'eitherworld'.

Oh :poo:. There's a thread here. O_o

On a side note: I "think" I have an airbox that "might" accommodate your filter where it is.

I have not laid eyes on it in a [long] time but I'll be digging through some stuff in the next couple weeks (tell you about that off-line) and I'll holler if I come across it.

Yeah, I'm open to suggestions.
The pic in my head is to install the valve into the top of the road tube and close off the flow tube part. I'll post a pic of what I'm thinking when I get back to the big screen.

I'm considering what to do about the PCV in my upcoming build. Some folks plug up the standard PCV and run a GM style PCV setup off of the valve cover, like this

There's another guy that T's the PCV piping and shifts the location of the chack valve. I think the wider pipe to the PCV port combined with the T that would slow lateral air movement directly over port might allow oil splash to drain back into the lifter valley. I think I would re-engineer it to use a single check valve, though.

Just food for thought.

The thing people don't know or think about is those PCV have different vacuum ratings, not a big difference but a difference just the same.
i could move the valve to the rocker cover, I could fix up a baffle for the inside but honestly, to me it wouldn't look right.
I got a couple ideas I'm mulling around
Thanks.

I sure hope noobz gets you that airbox.
That hot air setup you gots now takes me back 18 years, I just got my 93 and it had the filter laying there looking so pitiful.
First order to LMR was subframe connectors and a fender well CAI.

This was my motor when I bought my car, and I’m pretty sure the first suggestion made to me, after my first post, was to fix the air intake!

Let me know I have some extra PVC rubber grommets if you need one..... Brand new...

I feel like sometime/somewhere you mentioned a Ranchero(maybe.?.)
'the tugboat' more on that later but for now lets say I've lost my mind....
And on the airbox, that pic was just a mockup, I have a stock airbox (maybe two??) but I have a divider that was given to me by a :SN: escapee, pics later, I need to get back to work on that junk :hide:

I looked today for one of these but did not find it anywhere:

I did however, find this one:

And it can be placed forward, backward, etc..

The side facing [Aft] has a 3 inch opening? (I can get more pics and measurements if you're interested). This one of course, just keeps the fan-wash off the inlet and helps pull the air from the fender.

Now, if you really want to get in over your head, I also came across all this stuff:

The box Steve gave me blocks the 'fan wash', gotta look it's supposed to seal (sortof) at the hood, not sure how good it works
Yeah, I can't afford to feed a hair dryer the tires it needs to keep the smile on my face.
There are a couple options for air intake systems, I think it was @DudeStang that wrestled with a ram air hood on his 88 in here someplace: https://stangnet.com/mustang-forums...my-first-fox-body-1988-gt.914484/post-9421371 (he's prolly having too much fun with the rug rat to mess around with things like the stang and sleep)
Right now I'm checking connections and installing hoses, really just putting off taking the seat and console out to fix the shifter seal that melted....oh, and clutch cable jumped off the quadrant so there's that to deal with, got a pic dump I gotta post too when I'm on the big screen.
I feel the need for sideways tire smoke'n gear shiften action.
Oh, and AC this time around.
