I would take an STI over a cobra anyday of the week. The STI actually has some engineering and thought put into it. Yeah I own a cobra and have owned mustangs but WRX's are far better built cars and are more practical for people in the snowy states. Sure you can put exhaust on your 03 cobra and then spank that STI....Well guess what? You can put exhaust and a boost controller on the STI and then beat the cobra in the snow the dry the street and the track. Don't think that unlike many imports that it stops there. Put the up-pipes and down-pipes and the STI, get ported heads, FMIC, ported intakes..... Either car would be fun but it's obvious that the cobra is still stuck in 1979...

Good Question. The Sti is definatly a fast rice rocket, and from a stand still on the street, it would be close, because the sti is easier to launch (less torque, awd) than the cobra. In this scenario, it's a draw. On the track, it's lights out, Cobra would kill it. From a 5mph roll, cobra would kill it. Also, with only exahust and pullies, the Cobra puts up z06-destroying numbers. I have never seen a car modify as weel as the 03-04 cobra. From a stand still, on the street, is the only scnario where the sti can tie the cobra. I want one.

hot rod did a review like this and the cobra was a little better in a striaght line but if you had to turn the race was over. The cobra has mean torquey muscle written all over it, But they said the sti was more fun to drive and handled better.

I've driven both the 03 Cobra and an 03 WRX STI. I thought that the cobra was more fun to drive. It definitely pulled me back in my seat more than the STI did. And if you have ever raced an STI before you will notice that not many people launch the STI to its full potential, because those stock drag radials and no tires to spin means definite possibility of having to walk home. AWD cars aren't meant for drag racing.

See I am not the only one on here that could ever say a car is better than an 03 cobra.

I am not the one who spent 30,000+ dollars on a car that has the same chassis from 1979. It is still just any other mustang. Oh...you completely had me with the DOHC motor thing.jeez. Motors are everything. Mustangs still handle like **** and the interiors are definitly sub-par. Yeah I own a mustangs but it isn't for any of the reasons that make an STI a much better car. Oh yeah....I'll get right on that racing thing.....

I agree. I've had seven Mustangs, three of which were Cobras. They're all just Mustangs to me.

What's the big deal with what kind of car you own? Buy what you want. It wouldn't bother me in the slightest if an STi *was* faster than my Cobra. Yank yank. I had other reasons for choosing the Cobra and not an STi.

Wasn't trying to flame you with the last post but people need to get over thing whole cobra thing. I agree that I could care less if a civic is faster than my cobra but I also am not going to say my car is any better.

Careful what you say, you have DOHC heads too . The only Cobra I've had with a ticking problem was my '98. The 03 seems fine (knock on wood). If it does start ticking, I'll just get louder exhaust . Ford Quality has never been a deciding factor in me choosing Mustangs.

And for the record, both Subaru and Mitsu are rated lower than Ford by JD Power . The high quality Japanese imports like Honda and Toyota don't make any serious performance cars ... you get to have quality, performance, or price -- pick two .
