2Blue2's 1977 Cobra2 Driveway Build

166.4 horse power! is not worth celebrating.lol.

Does anyone remember the "G Tech" ? Ahh 90s technology. (I know an 8$ app will do this now)
Now that the Mutt II is running pretty good, I pulled the meter out of moth balls and spent the last week fiddling with it.
Kind of Surprised it still works .
Listed car weight at 3300 so numbers might be inflated

Best so far is long 2nd gear highway pull

59203880327__50A13F3E-9E0E-478C-B607-3FC5891AB540.JPG

better than all the 90 hp readings on stock 1 to 2 shift
Haven't got a good 1/8 mile reading yet still trying.

This is not Flywheel or wheel horse power but net horsepower used, what ever that means

Math
166.4 HP X 1.25 (Autotrans calc) = 208HP at flywheel

The 1966 ~ 2 barrel 289 was rated at 200HP
This Has stock 5.0 cam, HEI, and the 390ci two barrel carb on her.

Wonder how close to reality this is?
Is that the wrong trans calc?
Maybe I should use a different car weight like 3600? for my fat ass.
Whats a mustang 2 weigh loaded?

I know at this level of horse power no one really cares and it is barely above boring.
But its funner to drive slow cars fast than fast cars slow!
I just want base lines for the improvements to come.

The 1966 ~ 2 barrel 289 was rated at 200HP

That was using the old SAE "gross" horsepower measurement, taken at the flywheel, with zero accessories mounted to the engine.

You're running an engine that was officially rated at 139 "net" horsepower at the flywheel, with all of the engine-driven accesories installed.

166 estimated at the wheels means you're making roughly 200 at the flywheel for what it's worth. ElSuperPinto only put down 267rwhp on a chassis dyno, and she's a 12-second car.

Me and the kid out and about
Just a fun car to drive.
We both love it.

This is me changing the clock spring on the toyota to get the horn to work.
Deathly afraid of that Takata Airbag in this high humidity environment.
I lived thru it and the horn as well as the rest of the steering controls work again

Even a Takata airbag can't deploy if the system's de-powered before you work on it.

What's REAL sketchy is when you're having to diag an intermittent open or short with the airbag removed, but still plugged-in while the car's running.

A NO Parking Sign just grew here!

k5HsQBJUSC2mvGTm6NifPA.jpg

I used to park right here (just 4 days ago in fact) with 2 tires on grass and 2 in gutter.
never more that a 1/2 hour but...

The city just put this sign here literally right in the middle of where my spot is/was
Bastards!

I understand why but it still sucks. Now i got to flip around and park other side street. which is often full.

Oh well
just get over it.

grumble grumble

This poor snake has deteriorated .
Now that it is out in the Hawaiian sun and getting washed regularly it looks crappy

Other side is worse. You can see where the head folded during its install 12 yr ago.

Drivers side the wheel with its fresh sharp edge took some paint off
I think I can touch it up and hide it behind new snake sticker
Man this car does have some stickers on it.

Yup it was blue once
Other side went better.

I want to buff this spot once and then have the offspring install the new stickers.
I never cared for the over badging on these cobras but want to keep stock appearance as much as possible.

I didn't like the massive amount of decals either. That was why I went all black when it was repainted WAY long time ago. But, now I want all of them back. I have a set waiting for that day.

I don't mind the snow. You have to find something different to do is all.
Last Saturday next to the Montreal River (border between Wisconsin and Michigan).

Rubber Baby Buggy Bumpers

Been listening to deck lid rattle for last 6 months for lack of rubber bumpers.
but was concerned about which ones to order, since I can't find one direct fit for the 74-78
Turns out the 65 trunk lid bumpers fit pretty good, are cheap, and from one of our known suppliers.

No more constantly clunking deck lid, now I can hear all the squeaks up front.
Should of done this sooner.
