408W ... carb or injected ... opinions

just go to the next step.....blown injected alcohol. just kidding....go with a carb if its mostly gonna be a track car. you will find the car will work awesome. dont forget the jet extensions if you run a holley....which im sure you will

You will not drive the car on the street, yet you are most concerned with drivability?

Looks like you misunderstood what I said....

Original post:

this vehicle is not a daily driver nor is it street legal, however i will street drive it now and then when i need an adrenaline fix or going to a car show, etc.

I am mostly interested in the drivability of a dialed-in carberated car compared to a injected car, etc.

for the record, the msd igniton isnt a requirement and you would have to buy a new distro anyway for the 351 swap

i use stock lines AND rails on my set up, i upgraded the fuel pump though..runs and drives fine...i also dont have a tune or a "chip" of any kind..i adjusted fuel pressure and timing

my setup wont make the power alot of other 408+ motors do but it seems to have plenty for me

I highly doubt you are getting anywhere near the potential HP out of your combo if you are using stock rails and have not had it tuned. You really should go have a chip burned for it and have it tuned. It will be night and day.

You're building a TRACK car, but still, your worried about DRIVABILITY. :nono:
 That does not make sense.
 The car isn't even street legal
Build the track performance that you want, and tolerate the street manners the couple of times a year you actually hit the street.

That is just my opinion though,
If you disagree, then build the car anyway you see fit.
After all, it is YOUR car.
You asked for input, I offered mine...:nice:

I gave my answer... :nice:

I wish you the best of luck with your build,

A dialed in carb will be just as drivable as a efi set up. Basically when you have a carb tuned up the only thing that really distinguished efi from a carb is the fuel economy and the fact that carb'd car usally need to warm up a bit longer before they are ready to perform. EFI seems to be fire up and drive. Carb's take a little while is all.

Thanks for all the info.

I think I will go carb. 825 demon calling my name :O

anybody know performance difference between the GC and DR model?

The GC model is more of a street carb, the DR comes with jet extensions and notched floats, and is probably set up a little differant with jetting and power valves.

Personal,if you like the Demons,go with the Mighty Demon 850 annular booster.

Holley's HP series is also a good choise.

WOW I am shocked.. A carb company says carbs are better.. I honestly thought they were going to say that carbs are outdated tech and you really should go injected.

:p

hehe. There is no doubt a carb is old tech. And EFI is the new age. But that being said I still like my carb'd 351w. If I was worried about fuel economy i wouldn't have built a 351w up. I definetally would not build a 408 stroker if I was worried. Every test I have ever read carb vs efi the carb always make more power cheaper.

When it comes to making power on a budget a carb is hard to beat. I just think it's funny when people post "proof" like that

If you read it and think about it instead of just being a jerk about it you might learn something. My only comment was "check this out". I didn't say carbs are better. Both systems have their place. I have one carbed stang and one EFI and I like both systems.

I am building a 93 mustang, plan is to have it capable of dipping into the 9s. I am completely stuck between Fuel Injection or Carb. My pocket book tells me to go carb, but I have never owned a carberated vehicle. I have owned various fuel injected vehicles supercharged, nitrous, turbo, etc. So i do appreciated a well tuned EFI system. A good EFI system is expensive, and requires professional tuning, etc. I have an good friend, long time mod racer wanting me to go Carb for simplicity and the fact that he can easily tune it because he is familiar.

I want opinions from whoever has experience in this.

If you want to do 9s, then go carb. Make sure you KNOW carburetion. It is great that your friend knows carbs, but make sure you learn. It sucks when your carb guy isn't around and you're lighting the bowl on fire with no clue as to what is happening.
