Progress Thread 74 Mustang II - Build as semi-daily driver

My tacho conversion seems to work. A friend helped me with RPM reading with my ignition light and comparing it to the modified tacho... at night, because it is much easier at daylight.
I will post some pictures how I did the conversion. Its not more than 100 RPM off from idle up to 4000 RPM. That works for me.
- burn the whole fuel tank nearly empty to get new fuel into it before wheater is getting bad
- tacho conversion from 6 to 8 cylinders
=> 650 Ohm resistor
- installation of new used fuel level and water temp gauge (the old ones get stuck, the new used ones worked fine in a bench test)
- reverse light is not working; look up where the error is
- maintanance

Things I want to do, but will more likely a thing for next year (hopefully):
- remove DB killers from exhaust (measure before and after to see if it is nearly legal)
- install new u-joints on driveshaft (+ paint); check drive line angles
- custom adjustable front sway bar
- wheels?!

I just passed TÜV inspection without problems :)
So two years more driving with inner pease. I tought it could be time to cross of old points from my todo list and add new points:

- rear spoiler installation / repaint hood scoop and rear spoiler in 2K epoxy paint (black)
- check wiring of lamda sensor
- install gauges (solution for oil temp and pressure sensor?!)
- custom adjustable front sway bar

Hopefully I have more time for the car in the next two years. Drove just little more than 1000 miles in the last two years...
 
I do not want to experiment with aerodynamics... or with parking on sidewalks.
A front air dam is hardly "experimenting"
Virtually ever car/truck ever made in the last 40+ years has a front air dam on it.
It is a proven way to keep air from getting under the vehicle, which helps stability and improves fuel efficiency.

Passing Inspection = Most excellent
Still putting milage on that old Mustang feels nice.
Still might need a fresh picture...
 
The resistor converted the V6 RPM gauge to work with the V8 ignition signal input.
The C4 speedometer cable worked fine with the T5 transmission, I just needed to to the math to chose the right tooth count for the speedometer gear.

@2Blue2 you will get fresh pictured at latest when I get new wheels installed...

Had issues with my battery... Finally I replaced it and optimized the bracket Holding IT down with some heatshilding.
Perhaps it helps. Lets See.

The Wifey is gonna love it.
She does and me too. It's a light nugget. It has TI VCT (V-TEC) that kicks in at around 3500 to 4000 RPM. Its so funny. Did get a new cam drive belt cleaned the magnetic valves for the TI VCT cam, which they didn't need, whats a good sign. Played a little with tire pressure. It's a pocket rocket...
I saw that the ST version with turbo was also sold in the US and has a small fan base. Turbo would be nice, but we drive that only on short distance so it doesn't make sense for us as a daily. But I could by a total damage ST in some years and do a swap with all the running gear. But for now I'm really happy.

Back to Mustang: I had to re-adjust the carburator, because I put in more fuel and idle RPM, when the battery was dying, to get home. After adjustment the car ran great. Than i parked it for 1 or 2 weeks and after that I had popping exhaust from time to time and much lower power than before. Like running not on all cylinders.
I'm thinking if the issues are related to ignition. So I need to look that up next. I want to go trough to my setup with coil, pre-resistor and pertronix module. I should also check if alternator stopped working, which could also explain battery issues.
It never stops. But perhaps it's my past me hiding some easter eggs...
