Deep down i'm a selfish bastard........
Today I was going to go out to my truck as soon as the sun provided enough light and remove the flex plate and hose the engine down with Gunk and head to the car wash with it.
Last night my wife asks for help with her mother at 9:00am. I feel like there should be a referee in his striped uniform jumping out saying, "Illegal Procedure". I mean, who gives a one evening warning on a friday night for an early morning assist?!
So, you know what I'm really going to do!?

Wives and relatives reserve the right to derail any plans you have at anytime, I guess you skipped that chapter in the 'significant other and indirect relative' hand book.
It's not that JR, it's just having a 32 year old son and a 27 year old daughter you'd think that would relieve me from that part of the contract......or not

Yeah, what he said. Don't feel bad, we all skip those chapters. Then we get the Cliff's Notes of them forced on us when we least expect it.

I thought this was about to turn into softporn posting! I can't wait to see the teardown process and what one of those can be when it grows up in Dave's Garage!
Hopefully by this time you've gotten that behind you. The real question is....are you man enough to go wash this engine and start stripping it while BEDLAM takes place?

My mother in law has been right next to useless. I really do like her though. She just is in her own world.
To add another interesting comment, right after I go through being a baby earlier the two older kids said they would help out!
They live very close to their grandma and volunteered to assist.

Well, since you asked Scott.
I started out by taking off some things to make it easier to clean and so I could mount it to my stand. I took of the flex plate and backing plate, headers and pulleys and brackets. Five minutes work there.
Then hosed it down with two cans of Gunk and went to the car wash. Most of the crap cleaned off fairly easy.
Since I got it clean (sort of), i thought my work deserved refreshments.
I mounted it up to the stand and drained the oil. I don't see any contamination from coolant, that was good. The oil was seriously slugged out though. For you older guys it looked like the coffee that Lisa would pour on Green Acres. It came plopping out of the drain plug. That's how it's sitting right now, tilted slightly to the right side draining into my oil pan.
That had me wondering what the engine looked like inside, so I took off the valve covers. Looks really nice!
That's as far as I'm going for right now. I must watch football now and drink beer. That's the rules, i'm just doing my part.

That is so cool. I cant wait to help you spend your money on it!
Both the Oklahoma Sooners and the Iowa Hawkeyes won today, so I can't guarantee if i'll get much done on the engine tonight.....there's a slight chance I may have drank more beer than normal. This might cause me to remove two to three times the number of bolts than I should!
