Boost

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi Guys new to this forum I have an 05 V8 convertable over here in the UK.

I need the help from guys who drive these all the time.

I have just stroked the bottom with a forged 302 set up, fitted a set of comp cams and a saleen 540 blower with a 3.0 pully a steeda air intake, 39# injectors with a brenspeed tune, the only problem is i am only getting 405rwhp and 497 at the flywheel and i was hoping for more. Don't want to waste any more $ on parts that won't produce boost as i have been told boost= speed on the strip. I was thinking of getting the saleen extreme air intake, a 2.8 top pully, the larger water pump pully to limit belt slip, the 8inch over drive pully and 60# injectors, a JDM Tune ?. Can you guys advise me if i am going the right way about things> how about throttle bodys ?

Thanks Nick

I think somethings wrong if you're only making 405. That setup should be pushing much more, probably needs a lot of time on the dyno to sort it out properly.

I'm guessing he meant 505HP. On a twin screw blower, the torque and HP should be close.

Are there any speed shops over there that tune American cars? You really need to get a dyno tune with everything you have. You'll see a lot more power out of your setup.

I think you need more injector ... The car should be making a lot more power than that. It's too damn hard to say without seeing dyno information and the data. I wouldn't doubt that the fuel pump is running out of fuel too. What kind of fuel pumps do you have?

+1 on checking the fuel pump. The Whipple HO goes with dual FRPP pumps for a reason. Injector duty cycle might be getting pretty high too. Are you running a 6 rib or 8 rib belt? At the pulley sizes you're looking at, I'd think an 8-rib conversion is prudent.

Good catch guys. Definitely need bigger injectors and a different fuel pump setup for that.

No 405 at the wheels 497 flywheel 10.5 boost

I rang Bret at brenspeed and he sent me a tune.

I think dyno shops are limited tuning mustangs in the uk

As for the fuel pump in have fitted a gt500 duel fuel pump

I sent a data log to Bret and he said my maf is maxed out, thats why i am thinking saleen extreme air

60# to fuel it and smaller pullys to boost it . Any more ideas guys ?

The maf tube is maxed out or the maf itself is pegged? There is a difference. I don't think I'd be changing any pulleys, etc to add any power right now. I'd be working on trying to get the "correct" numbers for the car. What size maf tube do you have? I didn't think about it earlier but some Saleens came with 80mm maf tubes in the very beginning. If so, than you definitely need to get a bigger maf tube ...

It is my understanding that boost pressure can sometimes be a misleading number. It is easy to increase boost, but what is important is that you get the air flowing to the cylinders. If you have a restrictive intake, or an intake that is maxed out, increasing boost won't help. With an efficient intake system you can actually pump more CFM's through it with less boost, than a restrictive system with more boost. It's all about how much air you get to the engine not at what pressure it is at. I'm not saying psi doesn't help get more air in, I'm just saying that increasing boost without being able to utilize the pressure is a waste.

Man you definitely have some issues there with the tune and possibly hardware. First thing I would do is find a local tuner with a dyno and get the tune straightened out. There is no way you should be making only 405 wrhp, especially with a3 .0 pulley thats putting you around 10 to 12 lbs boost,I think you are running out of injectors with the 3.0 pulley, you really need 60lbers for that pulley size, probably pegging the Mass Air Sensor at 5.0 volts.
I am running a Saleen Series VI with 3.6 pulley 39 injectors and 95MAF from WMSracing tuned on a Mustang Dyno with x-cal and with areal conservative tune pushed out 427 wrhp and 404 tq. @6000 rpm's.
I had almost same issues at first stock injectors (24 lbs) 4.0 stock Saleen pulley and 80 MM Maf best I could get on the Mustang dyno was arounfd 365rwhp.

My Two Cent worth, Hope you get it straightened out soon. That low end torque and power from aSaleen SC is just awesome.

Are you running an Auto Trans or 5sp? Auto's will cut you down on HP

Ordering the Saleen Extreme air intake tomorrow, and i am running a 5 speed manual at the moment. Will end up with a T56 when the box blows up.
Thanks for the advice.
