You've got him on weight, and the '96 was one of the worst years for the 4.6 being that it was the first in a Mustang.
Bear in mind that he's talking about a Cobra, not a GT, so it's got a 305 hp dohc 4.6 in it, not the anemic sohc. He also said "bolt-on Cobra", so I'm assuming that it has pullies, cold air and exhaust, all of which should have it somewhere in the 315-320 range.
Owning both cars, I can tell you that you'll pull him off the line and he'll blow by you at half track.
