My friend has a 96 cobra with a few bolt ons, nothing special. His best run at the track is like 14.1, but another drive got a 13.8 out of it. My car has: e303 cam, 3.73's, subframes, hurst shifter, alumium driveshaft, mac cai, offroad h pipe, and some flows. Think I can run better than 14.0 pretty easily with these mods?

You should be in the 13.8 neighborhood with good driving and good traction. It would probably come down to the better driver. You've got him on weight, and the '96 was one of the worst years for the 4.6 being that it was the first in a Mustang.

whats his 1/4 mile MPH (trap speed)? Trap matters more if you guys are doing roll racing, which Im assuming you are. Likely hes in the 100+ range with you in the 95-97 area, I think hes going to walk away from you.

Those engine's have pretty good top end, enough to make up for the extra weight, but barly. However, less weight and better bottom end gives the fox the advantage out of the hole.

It will be at the track, 1/4 mile. I know he would get me from a roll, i want to give him hell at the strip though. Do I need to powershift to get a 13.8?

Your most likely not getting there without drag radials, and powershifting is a fast way to destroy your trans, in my experiance, my T-5 took 2 months of powershifting before it blew apart. Drag radials are a great addition to any geared fox.

Bear in mind that he's talking about a Cobra, not a GT, so it's got a 305 hp dohc 4.6 in it, not the anemic sohc. He also said "bolt-on Cobra", so I'm assuming that it has pullies, cold air and exhaust, all of which should have it somewhere in the 315-320 range.

Owning both cars, I can tell you that you'll pull him off the line and he'll blow by you at half track.

Good luck.

Go to the track....that would be the only fair comparison. It will come down to traction and who is the better driver. My Cobra with 4.10's and a cat-back, ran 13.54@106....with a crappy 2.2 60FT time on street tires.

The cobra will be faster….there is no question about that. It is possible for you to beat him, although it's going to take some great driving on your behalf…along with some bad driving on his.

Well like I said, hes never run better than 14.1 in the cobra, so maybe i can edge him out. I'll try to cut the best light i can, i just want to beat him to the traps!

See the thing is, we're not racing car vs. car. If he can only run 13.8 with a "bolt on Cobra" then it's going to come down to the driver. He's probably spinning like crazy off the line.

All i have to say is the 1996 to 1998 cobra suck. They don't "put you in your seat". Race him to 60 and you'll win. Cobras only good at 40 up according to others. Psh whats the fun in that? haha Although i do like all mustangs, those year cobras are on the bottom of the list. Most racing goes on in the street. So by the time you hit 60 its over. I drove my fox into town this spring for the 1st time this year and i have 3 '94 style camaros rev at me, god im so sick of those ugly cars and there is way to many of them. Every boy, mom and the grandma has one. Although there is a older women in her 60's driving a 5.0 fox in my town. Its quite funny.

I think people with unproven cars and 14 second mod lists shouldnt be ragging on how slow other cars should be! Might just be me?

No, the ignorance in this thread is palpable. The quote Cobras only good at 40 up according to others shows that what we are dealing with here is someone that knows nothing about what they're talking about. Typical internet genius.
