i just changed my cap + rotor due to alot of carbon buildup ( or i guess its carbon)

it was all on the metal parts on the cap and really built up on the rotor... looks like black dirt

what would cause this in only a year in a half? thats when i bought the cap and rotor

i have a msd cap and rotor
and msd coil..

too much spark?

never had a problem with my msd coil should i go back to stock?

nahh, not too much spark...if it's not missing, then just press on. How many miles do you put on in a year?

One of the guys I know on here still had the stock rotor and cap on his '95 Cobra after 90k miles...dude, that thing looked TERRIBLE, but even with the heat formed plug wires, 0.090" gap on the stock plugs, and the cruddy looking cap and rotor, it still ran like a top!

If it has aluminum contacts, I get build up on mine too. I think it's just from the current jumping the gap. I clean it up and put it back together. I've had better luck keeping brass contacts clean (I run brass whenever I can). Can't say I've ever noted the build-up cause an issue however.

Good luck.

Just goes to show you how good the stock ignition system is. MSD and other fancy ignition stuff is a waste of money unless you have NO2 or pressurized induction.
