Progress Thread Darkfader's 93 Gt Progress - Back to work

Hey guys. Hope you didn’t think I lost interest. As far as the car goes, I’m only lacking front calipers and a set of wheels and the 5 lug/4 wheel disc brake conversion is a go.

The garage, well, that’s another story. A few words to describe it could be, extreme irritation, helplessness, among others that would probably only show up here as asterisks.

Here is the abridged version of the story:

Lots in my town are small, too small for a moderately sized home and garage. The lot next door to me came up for sale so I moved quickly to purchase it. I’m about a month or two away from finishing a complete gut and remodel on my home so I knew I had the equity to finance both the lot and the construction of the garage, even though I knew I could build the garage myself, this would save me a ton of time and work. I contacted the garage people and got the costs from them and added it into the financing on the empty lot. I was in constant contact with the builders from that time (early June 2017) until now. I told them I would pay them the day I closed on the loan, which I did, in full, up front. DON’T EVER DO THAT.

So they were paid on September 24, and I was told I was on the schedule for the third week of October with an approximate two week build time. No one showed up until the week after thanksgiving. The shell was done rather quickly and appeared to be well built. And that’s basically where I am now. No concrete, no garage doors. They did come late December and move the 25 ton pile of gravel out from in front of it and laid it inside along with vapor barrier and wire screen reinforcements for the crete.

I realize the holidays, and of course we can’t pour concrete in freezing weather. Fine. But I suppose I expected better service paying in full up front. I was a general contractor for many years and would’ve saved many thousands building the thing my self, but I didn’t really have the time and didn’t want it to drag out. But hindsight, if I had built it myself, it would probably be finished.

With temps in the 50’s this week, I’m hopeful that maybe they take advantage and get some concrete in there so that the overhead doors can be installed and I can actually use the thing. I’ll keep this thread updated.

Bummer man. Sorry to bring it up!

No worries, I’m just frustrated that the building is sitting there and cannot be used. I have one room in the house where a lot of tools and remodeling materials are being stored. Just so happens that’s the only room left to remodel so I’m working around all this stuff. Extremely inefficient. Not to mention, I’d love to park my vehicles and race bikes in the garage. Bikes are currently in the living room. Lol. Luckily my girlfriend is supportive of my hobbies. <3

Concrete and garage doors are finally done. The concrete has been in for 9 days now, but it’s been pretty cold so I have no idea on how long I should wait until I pull my vehicles in there. Hopefully the temps don’t affect the final cure strength of 4500psi. A 2 post lift is definitely in the plan. I just don’t know how long it’ll take for a final cure. I’ll need some warmer weather to dig trenches in order to install electric and heat. For now at least I can store some tools and construction materials in there while I finish up the remodel in the house.

So the stang continues to sit outside in the weather, which bums me out a bit. I’m still on the hunt for some clean front calipers for my brake upgrade. And I’m 98% decided on the wheels I want. Pics of the garage:

I have been leaning toward these. I think they will let my brakes show nicely. From all the research, I’m pretty sure they’ll fit, but I’m still not 100% sure on that. 18x9, 5.95BS, +24mm offset. Seems like 265/35-18 tires are the best looking. The car will sit on maximum motorsports coil overs so I can adjust ride height to dial in the stance. I don’t mind rolling fenders. Any input on that plan?

I was not a fan of those type wheels
on foxes(I know they are not the same, exact wheel-but are similar.)

But when @Mustang5L5 put these on his fox
