do the t-45's use a speedo gear?...if so, what color for 4.10's

May sound like a dumb question. But I am not used to the 4.6 yet. Used to the fox. Anyway, I have 4.10's. Does the recalibration use a speedo gear or computer change? Gears were on the car when I got it. It's is about 10mph off. Registers 1.2 miles on the highway for every mile. Thanks guys.

You need to recalibrate it with a Chip
or
a speed cal

for 4.10's you need the white 23 tooth speedo gear. it puts it very close. i drive "1 mile" in 61.0 seconds which is a lot better than 20% change. other than that you could get a chip to ultimately correct it or change tire height a little to compensate.

yeah he's right about the white 23 tooth. but when i put mine in my old gt, it never even came close to fixing it. it made it a little better, but no where close to right. if you can afford it i would definately get the speedcal

To answer your question it depends on the year T-45 for up 98 models were mechanical (used a gear, T-45 for '99 and later were electronic.

It already has the gear. I just called the guy that installed it. How much would the chip or speed cal cost? And what do you have to do to put it in?

I was gonna say that you probably already had the gear. Mine is off by 10mph too. I have an extra 1000 miles on my car now. The speedcal is 99 bucks and can be found at Dallas Mustang. I need to go ahead and order mine.

no, you can have your cars computer re-flashed for the gear change. that's what i am doing as soon as mine go in

You can't recalibrate the speedometer for a 96 with a chip...

just get a Speedcal from Dallasmustang. Plain and simple

Another option is to go to the ford dealer and order a 7 tooth drive gear from a cobra t45. I think it was only like $8 or $9. You have to pull the tail housing off of the transmission It takes a while but it is easy to do. Also watch out using the 23 tooth gear. I tried one in my 96 and it shreaded itself along with the drive gear. So I had to order the new gear.

edit. I did a little looking and it looks like with 4:10s even with the 7 tooth drive gear you will still have to use the 23 tooth gear. Your best bet might be to get a speedcal.
