Engines Out Photo Progress Thread.....

thanks, alot of people love it, and alot of people say, ehh, not the color I'd Pick... Noone "hates" it so far, but if they do, thats what makes people so great, everyones got their own opinion and personality.... i'm sure someone does hate it lol... but hey, at least its not bright yellow, i don't hate that either, but its just yellow lol. Makes me think, taxi.......

Thanks for the encouraging words, When my engine is done, it will look like a bran new engine,
I have aanother question....
With my engine bay painted almost perfectly (nothings perfect lol) all the wires clean and stock black casings, the engine is going to have not a spec of grime on it, and I have a polished UPPER AND LOWER intake, chrome valve covers, chrome upper radiator hose, Chrome CAI going to that Steel looking C&L Inlet tube, w/ a steel looking MAF meter (not black), do you think my engine bay will be nice enough to show at car shows?? That is what I am aiming for, i will keep it clean (and polished) at all times, even though i drive it every day... keep it clean like i keep the car clean!! The under side of the hood will be hit with undercoating, called chip gaurd (or rubber coat, one or the other) it looks like spray on bedliner material when dry....

SO what do you think?? It's gonna be SUPER clean, and SUPER SHINY!!!! (I HOPE) and just wondering if you guys would post some pics of engines that you show at car shows (if its not too much trouble) so I can compare with everything from hidden wires, to painted bays, to cleanliness, to shinyness. THANKS AGAIN!!!!!!!!! I know i've seen a few EXTREMELY DETAILED bays floating around here!! I think it is Sir Sure Shot that is doing the turbo application, i seen his motor in a different thread, i'm sure his engine bay is gonna be ridiculously beautiful.. NEONE ELSE????????

Yep, to win at car shows...........Its gotta be CLEAN!

Yeah, i really do like that color. I mean factory mustang colors pretty much just sicken me anymore.........

Bright red (mine), maroon, white, black, gray, dark blue, bright blue.......

They get on my nerves anymore.......Its pleasent change to see a stang thats quite a bit different.....

Good luck

never use single stage ever at my shop.... just clear everything... the reason is, when you use single stage, it's alot harder to blend paint, say a fender is damaged, close to the door, we can just fix the fender and paint the fender, the color will no matter what you do, will not match (occasionaly theres a good color) but anyway, you have to tape the fender AND the door up for paint, and spray a little bit into the door, called a blend, and you gotta be good and not let anyone know where you stopped your gun for paint, which means go farther into the door on each coat... than when your done painting, you have to clear the whole thing, and it looks bran new again..... Single stage, another problem, say you use it, and you have to sand n buff it, and your using red (or any other color at all) when you sand n buff it (inevitable, because of garunteed orange peel) your buffing pad will only really be good for that single job because it turns your buffing pad RED , and they can become expensive, we can get away witha bout 20 panels (doors, fenders, etc.) to a single side on a buffing pad w/ clear coat... (2 sides) ....

Clear coat, i admit, its alot harder to do, not only because it's thinner and easier to run, but because there is alot more STEPS to painting the vehicle, butin the long run, it looks the BEST and lasts the LONGEST....

Yea, it took a long time to save up for all the performance parts i'm gonna use, but can't wait to use them, anyone can do it, u just have to sacrifice everything else (going out to eat all the time, driving alot, gas money, movies, shoot pool at pool hall) can't really do much of that when ur tryina save money for bad ass parts!!!!

OMG someone else that knows how to paint instead of bitching about it. THANK YOU

LOL thanks, i'm here to help everyone that's not as fortunate to have the knowledge to make a factory paint job look newer, or lay down a fresh coat, to help them through it when they want to up the looks of their 5.0.... LOVE stangs!!

WOW! Your love for your car is really beginning to show. Great job! I remember when I was doing mine a year and a half ago. I was like a kid in a candy store!

As for showing it when you're all done, OF COURSE you can and you should! I've got very minimal polished parts on mine (Valve covers only) and have won 5 first place trophies during the last year (out of 6 shows.)

I detailed the HELL out of my engine bay with paint because I didn't want to be polishing for hours on end. This included ALL bolts, brackets and accessories. It's a lot easier to remove, glass bead and finally paint something once a year than it is to polish it constantly. When I go to a show, I pop the hood and spray glass cleaner on my air cleaner and valve covers and that's pretty much it. Once in awhile I'll have to polish the valve covers (no biggie.) That's my way of thinking anyway.

Oh, and for the performance parts, you'll definitely be happy! :D What times would you like to get out of it? Horsepower?

Good luck with the car, it's looking great!

i'm looking for a 12.99999999 YEAA BABY!!!!!!! As long as the first two numbers are 1, than 2, in that order, i'll be happy - horsepowe?? I think it'll be around 280 - 285, just because ppl say its hard to break 300 w/ just a h/c/i, i dont know, but my engine is bran new, and its not a worn out 100k mile motor that i'm putting the power on, i'm ptting the power on a 0 miles block, so i'm thinking when people say, your not gonna be able to bolt on h/c/i and get 300, theyr talkin about my stock motor w/ a million miles lol I DONT KNOW - just give me a 12!!!!!!!

Hey "Paul",

I hate to rain on your parade but you keep saying 'your shop'. Is the shop in fact yours? You seem a bit young to be owning a facility like that.

Regards,
G

Why's my name in quotes?? lol that is my name lol

Your rain happens to just be sun showers my man, it's my dads shop, but i'll be taking it over in about 3-4 years I beleive, and for the use of typing out words, to shorten what i am sayin, i just say my shop, usually people already know that i'm talking about my dad's place!!! Good luck tryna rain on someone elses "PARADE" lol Cuz i'm putting an engine in my car at "my" shop lol and nothing can bring me or my parade down - thanks for payin attention though, i guess that means for now on i have to write it all out so noone tries to pick me apart lol nahhhhh!!!!

SGarlic~

I'll see if i can get a shot, but the bellhousing is still on the engine, and its got so much grime on it, i dont exactly know if it would tell you anything!!!!

Oh yea, and please, no more silly comments, this is supposed to be a strictly photos and questions thread about the engine build process, because you guys have helped me so much, I want to help anyone i can by posting EXACTLY what it takes to pull and rebuild (w/ new block of course) an engine w/ a standard H/C/I combo, because I am lucky enough to be able to do this kind of work on the weekends, i suppose the thread will go onwards of 3-4-5 pages i dont know, because i'll be taking pictures as I go, and there is quite a few more steps, so any serious questions you are more than welcome to the parade. Even daggar lol

Paul, I just took another look-that engine bay looks sweeeeeet, if I didn't like blue so much, I'd be all over a green Mustang. How's everything else coming with the engine? I'm sure we'll see you on here when your getting the timing and fp dialed in-but in the meantime-good luck and keep posting the pix! :nice:

"able to enter a car show" - any car can enter a show, really. I saw one guy who taped off his engine bay and sprayed the ENTIRE thing with gray spraypaint. It was the most God-awful thing I ever saw. Paint was peeling and cracking everywhere: belts, hoses, etc. Terrible  So in that respect, yea it'll be nice enough to show.

If you go the chrome route, though, only doing a few parts is going to make it look unfinished or half-assed. At least IMO. If you're going to go shiny, go all the way and then some. See my or ALMOS STOCK's engine bays for examples ;)

Otherwise, ultra-clean is best.
