With a 4 jaw chuck on a lathe, it will take more time than that just to center the work up so that it is concentric. I have been there and done that...
I agree,..I watched my machinist cut the center out of my toothed wheel so that it would mount behind the balancer,..he had to make a jig to support that flimsy 1/8" thick piece of steel. Once that was done I had to drill and tap the holes to mount the ring to the back of the balancer, then return to the shop to have him true the concentricity of the thing,...it was .030 out of round.
Nothing fit in the scope of 10 minutes.

I called the shop I dropped my pulley and trigger wheel off at. He was apologetic but told me he can't get the trigger wheel chocked into the lathe.... something to do with the teeth on the wheel.

Now what? How the hell am I gonna get this done, he said he could cut the pulley down and then I can weld my trigger wheel to it, bit let's be honest here how am I going to make sure it all ends up correct? I don't have the equipment to make something this precise work. I wish I had a shop full of tools.......

:scratch: maybe asp can make me one......

my guy made a fixture to cut the center out of my trigger wheel.. Hell, if you have the same DIY piece that I have, YOU can cut the center out of it w/ a jig saw.

It's the mounting, and truing part that requires a machinist.
So,..You do what I did.

Take that wheel and get it to sit on the pulley so that you can weld it. Drill holes through the pulley and the trigger wheel that will allow you to use machine screws that will allow you to move the thing around a little while you get the thing close. My trigger wheel overhung my balancer, so it was just a matter of measuring how far each tooth over hung while I shifted the thing around as I tightened the screws that hold mine to the back of my balancer. Once I got it as close as I could get it, I backed out each screw one at a time and red loctited them back in.
(this would be the part where you either replace the screws or not w/ some sort of permanent fastener,..whether that be locnutted screws, or welding,..whatever trips your trigger)

Then I took that assembly to my machinist where he chucked it up, and trued the circumference. ( I was .030 out of round)

I know a guy in FL with a plasma table. Maybe he can help? I still need mine done.

I need to read back a few pages here and catch up

if he can't figure out how to clamp on that, you didn't want him messing with it anyway.

Take some individual pictures of the balancer back side and the timing wheel . The timing wheel should be laying flat side up and the camera perfectly vertical to the timing wheel.

With those pictures, we may be able to make some suggestions to help you find a workable solution.

Let's take a break from the trigger wheel for a bit.... I will pick it up on Monday.

I have found my holy grail of water meth tanks, thank goodness for eBay.

The idea is to use an aluminum fuel cell mounted in the engine compartment for the water methonal mixture. They come with 10an ports and are sumped. I will of course use 6an stuff. They also come with a level sender 0-90 ohm..... a fuel gauge to accompany it is only 20$ this way I know how much is left on the tank.

Next question will 2.5 gallons be enough? Should I cut the inner fender apron to allow a 5gallon tank (excessive I think)???? At least with the gauge I will know how much I have.

Have I mentioned yet that this option is CHEAPER than a plastic tank of the same size that has no bulkhead or sender or level switch...... Go figure.

Who's got the down low on this, at what purity level will this happen? I only plan on running 30% meth to water at most.
Meth does indeed eat aluminum, but I'd think that the kind of water mixture that you're talking about is diluted enough to not be of as much concern about that. What happens is that a white chalk like residue will start to form on the aluminum if there is enough acidity in the mixture to truly be corrosive.
Unfortunately, I believe you're gonna have to carry the torch here,..I'd bet nobody here is using anything for a reservoir that wasn't supplied in a "kit".
