Ethanol blows / I tried the Acetone Trick

what are yall using to measure the acetone out? i was gonna do it but i couldnt find a graduated cylinder or anything that measured ounces. the only thing i could think of would be a shot glass but thats not very accurate

A common glass Pyrex measuring cup available at the grocery store hosewares section will do the job. It is marked in both ounces and ML.

One of the reasons your car may have been detonating is that ethanol mixtures tend to run leaner than straight gas. Ethanol mixes require a larger volume of fuel to maintain the same AFR. you can tune for ethanol if it's something you're going to use on a regular basis. If your injectors are on the ragged edge now, it may mean the need for stepping up to the next larger injector to get the fuel volume required.

Ethanol mixtures end up costing the consumer more money. Less bang for the buck than standard gasoline because more is required to produce the same power.

Go to your local R/C car shop and get one of the sqeezable fuel bottles for gas R/C cars........

i live in race country usa...the only stores they have around here are food and race shops. they dont bother with r/c cars, theyve got real race cars. but i appreciate it, i might be able to find one back home.

another question that has eluded me for a while. how many gallons is the fuel tank in our cars?

That makes sense Daggar, but I don't think my injectors are by any means maxed out. This is on my daily driver which is a 2003 Lexus IS300. They run a little rich from the factory, but I have also added headers and a CAI to it which may have compensated a bit for the richness. I have a piggy back fuel computer I need to install to do some fine tuning with the fuel along with a 75 shot I got for it a while back, but I haven't had the time to install . These cars typically don't need larger injetors unless you go over a 100 shot or add boost. Thanks for the input though. I learned something new about ethanol.

yea, as long as its says that it's 100% pure acetone, then that will work. Acetone is the main ingredient in paint thinner. It won't damage any of your seals or anything. The rubber fuel components are made to withstand gasoline, so 3 oz. of acetone in 10 gallons of gas won't harm anything at all.

It doesnt say its 100% anywhere on the can.

If it says "acetone" on the can and not "paint thinnner or mineral spirits" then it's most likey 100%.
