There's a guy around here with a pretty good looking 84 LTD Wagon. It even has a Reagan/Bush sticker on the rear bumper.

Nobody would expect a wagon and any extra weight is over the rear wheels.

I like the early Falcon Futuras. I was trying to make a deal on one when I found an SHO at a great price, so my plans changed immediately. Putting a hopped up 4 in a falcon instead of a heavier V-8 might help make better handling and braking easier.

To be clear on my position here, It’s your money, it’s your time, and you're the only one that matters in the end here.
Whatever car you choose, is gonna be all you, and my .02 will be the equivalent to the noise coming out of my dogs ass when he sleeps.
However,....
When you make an open ended statement on a public forum: i.e. I’m thinking about selling the perfect drag race platform,
That the engine of choice just happens to sit on FACTORY mounts,
That has a massive aftermarket to source every single chassis/safety/steering/ suspension/weight reduction/exhaust mod Ill ever need,
That you couldn’t get motivated to work on, because it’s hot as fck.

And now instead plan getting something that’ll require tons of mods to the car just to get it safe and roadworthy, much less capable of putting a 9 second 1/4 mile pass on the ground..

That offers none of the above, and will require that every single thing you do to it be either custom, or from a completely different car, and That the few aftermarket parts that are offered for it are still intended for a street car, and NOT an 8 second drag car..not to mention the fact that it looks like a Cuban Military staff car...
That you’ll have to do yourself,.... in the garage,..that’ll still be hot as fck...

it begs for an intervention.

Theres a guy we all know that just went through almost a year of frustration trying to make something fit that wasn’t supposed to fit. Despite advice to the contrary, he had to do the sht his way...and bumped his head.
And stuff had to be made, stuff had to be adapted, stuff leaked, and got welded, stuff still leaked, and got welded some more.
The brake booster wouldn’t clear, the steering had to be replaced..
Then, despite advice to the contrary, he adapted this, and adapted that, and tried to make something else fit that wasn’t supposed to...and still....he bumped his head.
And Finally,...after a whole freakin year of head bumps,..the thing runs. and even at that...there’s still the possibility that there’s more head bumpin in the future.

Why do you insist on bumping your head?

You'd have found some other pain in the ass. Instead of the Gila Monster we'd have a Ranchero with a Crown Vic frame and powertrain swapped under it and a turbo (wait, that sounds awesome, let me write that one down), or a BMW N55 powered Fairlane, or a SR20DT powered Falcon, or some other damned thing.

I had mine on a grain elevator scale not too long after I got it running in it's current configuration. It was 2800 or 2900 with my 200# ass in the seat. There are lighter cars out there for sure, but It's not all that heavy either. If you're going full out drag car, most of the heavy body parts (i.e. hood, bumpers, hatch if you go that route....) are available in fiberglass. A II can be a viable option, especially for drag purposes.

Yep, I've seen it...well just on FB. Ironic because the guy in Tulsa I bought the 2.3 long block from was going to put it in a Courier for his son...but his son found a flood victim C5 Vette and they were going to figure out how to put the Courier on the Vette chassis. The dad had a SuhWEET 383 Baracuda that made my nipples hard when he started it. I bet the cam tunnel had to be notched to get that cam in!

Wha....that's not the way to do it? I spent about $1800 on the head, cam and complete valve train. I'm hoping to spend less than that...maybe less than half on the victim...er chassis to put it in. I mean purchase price. I'll be buying a cage and suspension parts obviously.

Dammit. I still have some Fox suspension stuff too. This is a Fox I would like. Hatch. Check. Four Eye. Check. Seems solid. Check. But it wouldn't cause Mike's right eye to twitch.

I'm busy the next 3 weekends, so we'll see if it's still out there or something like it. There's a 63 Falcon in Tulsa I'm keeping an eye on. Atlanta's closer.

I would definitely look at the front frame rails on that 86. It looks like the surface rust around the battery tray area spreads down toward the frame rail on that side. Then there's the driver side, who knows how much brake fluid may have spilled down that strut tower and compromised that side. Outward appearance looks like a viable candidate though. If I didn't have so much going on with my house I'd consider looking at this one for myself and use my convertible for parts.

If there's a Falcon, the $400 K member converts the front end to Fox. The fabricated shock towers are pricey, but would be pretty easy to fab. ESPECIALLY now that we have an Amada 3kw ENSIS laser, a turret punch, and a couple of press brakes at work. And oodles and oodles of 11, 14, & 16 gauge sheet metal we run and tons of drops we scrap.

Even if I didn't do the Fox K member conversion, I notched the shock towers on a Maverick when I was 17 or 18. It's not rocket surgery. Especially nowadays if you finagle a coil over spring in there, could probably cut it 2" deeper than I did then.

If I go with an actual Fox, it would probably get a tubular front end, so the frame rails in front of the strut towers don't matter. The roll cage will tie into the strut towers to stiffen it up.

Is that full exploder front dress....accessories are wider than the engine. Looks like a MII conversion. That's pretty cheap too, but for drag racing, I don't think enough suspension travel.

You do realize Ford put Windsors in them from the factory? You don't have to cut the shock towers to put a Windsor in it.

We'll see in 3 weeks what's what.

there are a bunch of 260/289/302 engines in first gen falcons without taking the shock towers out, he put a mustang ll type front suspension in that one
