Hey whats up! More 2.3 power needed

"Bad vam? "
"between my turbo and vam,"

VAM
Vane Air Meter

Correct?

This is probably one of your problems.
They were never that great when new, let alone what one could be like now.

Any way to convert to a MAF?
not sure about the MAF conversion, but I believe part of my issue is the VAM (Vane air meter) (your correct) i may have it oriented wrong. I did some talking to Shannon from stinger, he thinks I need to get a grip on my fuel system, figure out my fuel pressure, and put the right gas in my engine ( iv been trying to burn off a tank of 87, I'm gonna go spend a fortune on 91 lol) he also recommends I hook up my afr guage asap.

That's what I've been thinking all along, take care of the fuel issue and add the AFR gauge first.

Get that motor ironed out and then maybe start chasing the fuel tank gauge issue next?

Don’t kick yourself too hard. We’ve all done stupid stuff in this hobby and the first thing was picking up a wrench and thinking “I’m just gonna fix this and…how’d a blower get on there?”

That's actually how I end up swapping in this turbo motor, i went to pick n pull to get a ranger cam and some roller rockers so i can save money on a ranger x cam. Ended up coming home with a whole motor... That still needed a cam :dammit:

As of now, im going to take the car to school, as long as i dont go over 70, or 3100 rpm in 5th, i get no check engine light. Continue the break in process. And at lunch ill dilly dally with the fuel pressure regulator. And see if that fixes the lean code!

Also! Dose anyone know how the kirban fuel pressure regulator works? Im assuming its like a boost controller, the firther in you turn the screw, the higher the pressure, the further out, the lower?

CEL dose not come on till 3100 rpm when the engine starts making boost, stays on throughout the gear. Twas flickering because i kept letting off.

CEL also dosent come on when engine is not making boost, example: revving in nutral, or slowly tacking out 1st gear without making boost.

I dialed in my fuel pressure regulator to 48 PSI as soon as I start building boost, the engine sputters and throws a check engine light, doesn't sound too good, I'm definitely not willing two blow this engine, I'm parking it until I got my AFR gauge hooked up, but I'm realizing I'd rather not have most of this finiky stuff on my engine and i may be pushing the limits of a LA3 ecu, i believe the best thing to do to prolong my components, and my engine, and my sanity, would be to get a Pimpx ecu and just tune it on my own, and tune it right, specially since i was gonna get one anyway.

I know it sounds like i think a stand alone will fix all my issues, and im not expecting it too, i just want the ability to control the engine from one place. I know the n/a portion of my harness is solid, the only issues im having is with the vam, and possibly the TPS, Figure im going to spend alot of time and money figuing out the issue im currently having, and in the end ill get the pimp ecu anyway, so, id rather just get it now and eliminate what i can, just to get rid of all the finiky stuff in one swoop

looking up my codes for my Engine off key on test:

81: boost control solenoid ( i have removed this component)

82: 2.3L TC – Fan Control wire shorted to ground – A/C and Fan Circuits (i have my radiator fan hooked to a ghetto switch under my dash, monkeys from panama removed whole circuit, and A/C is un plugged

84:
EGR Vacuum Regulator – Solenoids
EGR cutoff solenoid – Solenoids
EGR Vent solenoid – Solenoids

81 repeat
82 repeat
84 repeat

10: calls for wide open throttle, as in floor it for a second and lift up ( did not do should probly Re-Test)

22: MAP (vacuum) or BARO signal out of range – MAP
41: system lean <-------------------------------------------------- most concerned about
58: Idle Tracking Switch (ITS) signal problem ISC <----------------------- what on earth is this?
63: TPS signal too low <-------------------------------------------------- i probly need to either change components or adjust mine
66: Vane Air Flow (VAF) or Mass Air Flow (MAF) signal low – VAF MAF

Yeah no good on system lean, code 22 and tps make me think wiring issue but it is possible two separate problems. Id have to check some diagrams but I believe they share a ground. May have been covered...hows your o2 sensor

Also forgive me im familiar with 5.0s if i get something mixed up my apologies haha

I think if I disconnect my battery and reconnect it, that resets the computer, I'm going to clear my codes and do the test again and see if I still have it
