How far can you go and claim "stock"?

theoretically speaking of course. most people would say anything altered other than stock is modified. currently i say my car is "stock". it has a 180* thermostat, fms 9mm wires, msd blaster coil, kirban afpr and k&n. but i plan to use gt40p heads, and a stock fox upper intake. possibly a gt40 intake. while all are "stock parts", would you consider the motor stock?

I can see this taking many turns. different people have different views on what is stock. I consider my car stock right now. I know some people will agree, while others will take totally different views on it.

A stock car and a stock motor are two different things. A 'fobra' is not a stock mustang. And a cobra engine is not a stock GT engine. I dont see how there can be confusion? Its black and white.

any thing that is not OEM, or OEM replacement is to me not stock....the second you change something its NOT stock.....im not talking going down to autozone cuz you need new brake pads and you got those insead of OEM Ford ones....that would still be stock...the only "modification" i might consider not voiding the "stockness" of your car to be a drop in K&N.....but even then i would say "its got a stock motor with a drop in K&N..." but it aggrivates me when people say "its stock with performance wires, TB, MAF, K&N, CAI, and whatever....." cuz ITS NOT STOCK!!

I wouldnt consider plugs, wires, filter, cap, rotor, ignition/fuel upgrades not stock anymore because if everything else is stock, thoes are pratically useless because they are not needed. On a stock motor probably the only thing that will give it more power out of thoes is the K&N filter.

Power or no power, its not stock. "stockness" is not defined by how much power a part contributes. "Stockness" is defined by what came on your car stock....from the factory. Thats it. If your car has anything on it that is not meant for your model car, by the Ford engineers its isnt stock. If you want a stock car buy ford products to replace your wires, caps, rotors, fuel filters. There is a reason they charge a premium and there is a reason cars with only Ford parts get more when sold. Cuz they can claim stock status. Once you add a cobra part to your car, no matter what it is, its not stock. That part was not designed to be on YOUR car.

So your saying when I changed out my 8 year old spark plugs for some autolites my car wasnt stock anymore? What if you put some performance oil in the rearend to make the clutch packs grab better?

Now what happens when you port your heads and intake. They are the factory OEM parts, but they arent "stock" anymore because they were modified.

But the autolite plugs are the same as the motorcraft ones. Its just a different name... so wouldnt that make it still "stock"

A ported intake and heads are still factory OEM parts so according to what you posted earlier they are still "stock" parts. They came on the car when it was made, and are still there and have not been changed out for anything else.

haha saw that you edited and added "near stock" I'll go with that :D

They arent at stock specs tho. You are making this harder than it is. Its not how it rolled off of the assembly line so its not stock. Now of course you have to replace things and THEN it wouldnt be how it rolled off of the assembly line. I'd expect someone to come up with that smarta$$ remark. But thats when you replace things with Ford brand parts for YOUR car. If you modify anything on your car, its not stock, its now a modified mustang. You can bend this around as much as you like and look for loopholes but if you modify the specs on your car or buy non OEM replacement parts for your car whether it be for your motor, wheels, tires, belts, heads, bumpers, spoilers or oil even. ITS NOT STOCK. The end, have a nice week. I'm going to go get some food and a few beers. :)

IMO if you change something on the car but is regualr wear and tear then it is still stock..IE.. Spark plugs/ wires, fliters oil and air, break pads exc exc...

There are way to many loop holes to draw a line for "stock" to "Modified Motors"

Is Putting in a K&N void the stockness? No I belive not. The motor is still stock, how dumb would it sound going to the track and having some guy ask you...hey is your car stock?? Nope Ive got a K&N Filter you better watch out.

now like what 1105 said, what if you port the "Stock" heads or Intake? Well thats modifying it so I would consider that non stock. Once you change a factory part w/ an aftermarket part and that part give you more performance that can actually be mesured then I belive you dont have a stock motor anymore b/c it is not in stock preformace as it was when it came off the show room floor. IE...Mass air..TB, Intake, Heads.

But then there is the other side of the coin, what if you bump the timming, you dident add or take anything off the car, but you gained HP from it so is the motor still stock

UGGG this is way to confusing, my head hurts........ :spot:

I think its ok to use the word though when referring to heads or the stock longblock. There is alot of people here with endless ammounts of different combinations. Sometimes its easier to say I have a stock longblock to show the limit to the cars potential.

But even I say my car is stock even though I have catback and K&N. I just say that its basically stoch with the only modifications being catback and k&n. Whats wrong with that. Even though the car technically not stock.
