So my 1989 gt has been making an awful metal grinding noise only when it is in a forward gear. Once I depress the clutch the noise will go away. It will not make a noise in neutral or at a dead stop either. I know the transmission has to come out, but what is this problem coming from? Input shaft bearing? Has anyone else had it?

Possibly something in the clutch assembly but not too likely with it not making any noise in neutral or with the clutch depressed. I would suspect its in the transmission but the only way are going to know is to tear into it. I would not drive the car as you are probably making things worse by driving it.
