What amazes me is how much basket case desirable cars from Coparts sell for.. Salt water flooded smashed, basket cases with forklift damage courtesy of the coparts forklift drivers... Things have certainly changed from when I was younger.....I submitted. We will see what they say. I have the feeling a 152K mile taurus is not high on their list. I got the same sense from Carmax/Carvana.
I think part of it is i'm insulted with the low offers but I get it. Not a high demand vehicle and high miles. But still....i kept this thing in fine shape.
My 17x9 are 6.182 backspacing. Made specifically for Foxes with 5 lug conversion….. from American Muscle.It seems conventional wisdom is that you want about 6" back spacing in the rear for a 9" rim, but it seems to me like it's really more than that to get perfectly centered.
The calcs I've seen on backspacing vs. offset suggest that you add an inch to estimate the total width of the rim, divide that in half to get the true center, find the distance from the backspacing to the true center, and then multiply that by 25.4 to get the offet in mm. If that's right, then the 17x9 Cobra R wheels with a ~5.95" backspacing (R58) would have an offset of 24.13mm. The R179s, which you probably know are meant for a fox with SN95 axles, and have a 6.42" BS would have a ~36.1mm offset. The good news is that if you overshoot, you can always space it out. Hard to go the other way, though.
I don't know if any of that helps, but I think you're in the right ballpark. Are you on fox length or SN95 length axles?

Please report back. There should be a better tool than currently exists to adjust backspacing and mount a tire on. I'm guessing, because laziness, that you have the 94-95 spindle, and so your track-width up front is just a bit wider than stock fox. Like a couple tenths of an inch-ish on each side? Anyways, if you find the optimum 9" wheel BS and offset, I'm all ears. I ended up putting an 8" wheel up front on the black car because I was tired of rubbing and it did seem to resolve that. I think a 9" should be no problem if the BS/offset is right. There are coilovers on my setup, as well.I swapped to Fox.
I test fit the 18x9 +25 out back and like where it sits. I think the +35 will work well up front but want to see clearance on the coilover spring first. Why I ordered just one. I’m trying to avoid a spacer up there
If I remember, (without searching back through the thread) he has the ‘96 spindles with the MM k member. I think that k member is made to work with the later spindles.Please report back. On "Grover," the blue car, though it's in a shop in Ohio at the moment and so not available for measurement, the 18x9s with the 94-95 spindles were too wide and @GroverDill used this setup to widen just enough to clear the tire, and I believe he did it with a 255. Thus, I feel a 245 is just about perfect, but I also suspect that if you got the BS/offset just right, it could be done without any special modifications, and could possibly include 255+ width tires:
I dig your new center caps, and they are an improvement, but I have to say... sorry... the tri-bar for me would be the way to go if that's an option. There's something fresh about that red, white, and blue... call me a patriot, I guess.
