Acetone, propanone or dimethyl ketone, is an organic compound with the formula₂CO. It is the simplest and smallest ketone. It is a colourless, highly volatile and flammable liquid with a characteristic pungent odour.

Be careful when using this, just like you would thinner or gasoline,
Just say'n.

Not much to report. Got the pass side SFC tack welded in place. Had to take it to work to adjust the angle with the press, but after that it dropped right into place.

Tack welded in and now just need some time to sit there and burn it all in permanently.

Maybe tomorrow night.

One side done.

You guys were right. This sucks. It's not that it's necessarily difficult to do, but just tricky to get those inside welds. Not pretty but they will hold.

Have to flip the car in the garage so the car is back on 4 wheels again. I had to test the stiffness but even with one SFC welded in, jacking the car up is now a different experience in terms of how the car lifts. Jack the front wheel up and the rear goes up with it. I'm not used to this, but I like.

One more side to go. At least it's the "easy" side without the fuel/brake lines. Should be able to bang it out.

Eh..I can't really get a nice "aesthetically pleasing" shot of the underside. I'll try on the other side.

TBH i'm just trying to cruise through this last part ASAP so i can get the interior back together and get the Recaro seats off my bar.

scraping up loose sound deadener. Some POR15 and Kilmat going in on this side shortly.

Very happy to see the floors are in great shape.

Purchased a new plug kit for the floor/hatch because why not

POR-15 on the floor followed by Kilmat and some of the Noico foam. I only did the pass side for now. I actually ran out of foam but have another box arriving tomorrow. But you can see how my plan is taking shape to foam around the trans tunnel as it will act like an insulator. I’ll get in the gaps at the end.

I actually spun the car around in the garage today so I can weld the other SFC

But wow, what a difference and I’m not even done! The exhaust note is definitely knocked down some. I wish I took DB readings before and after but I am impressed at the difference it made.

I still need to do the drivers side of the pass compartment, and the drivers door, but it definitely seems like the sound behind me is muffled much more.

Yeah it added 30 pounds, but I don’t give a flip.

New carpet showed up.

They actually trimmed it. It fits damn good! I’m impressed but why did I have to send it back to get it to fit so well??

Ok, maybe not perfect. With the seats reclined, it does pull the carpet up away from the back of the hatch. But let’s be honest, I’m never reclining the rear seats.

I did not cut the sunroof strap holes. I left the straps under the carpet. I figure I would use it to strap down the spare tire and didn’t want to mess up the carpet by cutting anything. I’ll never use the straps so not a big deal.

I do have new seatback material, and as you can see my current seatback material is a little lighter. It’s not as notable in person or with the seats up.

I’ll save that for a rainy day sometime down the road.

Speaking of spare tire, I found my solution. Yes, I have a towing policy but I want a spare in the car.

The problem was the cobra 17” spare did not clear my C6 calipers without a spacer, which seemed sketchy up front as I didn’t catch enough threads on the lugs.

But found a solution. I am not having weldcraft cut down a 98 cobra wheel (as cool as that would have been)

Yes, that’s an 18” spare tire. Wheel shows up Sunday

I got quoted $350 per wheel to widen my 98 cobra rims from weldcraft. That ouches my wallet.

Yeah, that’s why I found something else. I didn’t want to drop $400-500 just to narrow, powdercoat and mount a tire for a spare.

$125 for an 18x5 wheel and $120 for the tire. Still not cheap but I can live with that and I feel better being able to toss a spare on if needed for some odd reason I hope never comes to be.

Most importantly, it will clear brembos, which I don’t have

Good to know, I think I am going to killmat the car I am working on now before I put it all back together inside..

Finally fixed the floor pan crack. Really this was the only issue with my floors, although it’s a big one. Shaped it back where it should be and stitched it up. Just need to massage it a little bit more

Now to Jack the car up and prep it to weld the SFC in. That will ultimately secure the floor when I weld that in.
