more meaningless progress it's on the stand

It may seem meaningless but for anyone who's done it (alone) knows that it's a lot of work to get it there on that stand. I just wrestled mine out of the back of my truck last night and it took a while because it was snowing and my driveway was slippery and the canopy on my F-150 was getting in the way of the boom extending upward.

I have a question to you (or others that know). What size bolts did you use to bolt the stand to the back of the motor? Are they 7/16" SAE? I have the same HF stand but mines the 1/2 ton.

Sweet!
Jeff, I always had good luck with the ford racing lifters in a stock block hyd roller application.

that was my thought too I just like opinions as you can see . I think we are gonna let the 156k block rip with a new oil pump in it I think with a good tune we should be ok for a year
or two ? @84Ttop my cam should work two it's not much crazier then a TFS 1 it's a lunati 218-228 536 536 with a 112lsa . Also should I run a high vol pump or just run a standard melling ?

I wouldn't hesitate to let that motor rip! Obviously check ptv clearance but that cam should work well. You will probably get a fair amount of debate on the oil pump but I always run the high volume ones and have never had a problem.

Let me be the one to debate the HV oil pump.

**This is not coming from me.

Call any cam manufacturer and ask them what factor contributes to the most failures in stock/mildly modded engines w/ regard to dist gear/oil pump drive/cam gear failures, and they'll tell you it's the use of an HV pump where it was not warranted.

I've been doing a bunch of reading on the subject considering that I now have a super rare, $600.00 one off mech roller for my engine, and it was almost forbidden that I use any other pump other than a stocker.

HV pumps are there for that purpose,...to move a buttload of oil through an engine that was clearenced for it. Trying to force that same volume of oil through stock passages only adds strain to the drive system for the pump, and basically ends up costing extra power to drive it, w/ ZERO benefit (in actuality it's use is detrimental).

So,..my advice is ......replace the pump with the same one that Ford put in it from the factory.

I knew it was coming @madmike1157 lol. I personally have yet to have a problem. Are they saying that it is more drag on the shaft/gear etc? Now that I think of it, I always use an arp oil pump shaft and never a stocker, maybe that provides my good fortune? Also I can't remember the last time I had a dist gear failure.

All I know is that I have been using stock pumps since the 90's when I first read up on the subject. And I've never had an engine die as a result from lack of oil. Now that my only option for a dist gear is a damn bronze piece, adding any extra stain that would make that piece of junk wear faster just don' make no sense.

I usually get 3-4 years out of a bronze gear fwiw. I've recently switched to composite and hoping they last a little longer.
