Need better traction at the track

Still spinning with the 295 BFG Ge-Forces so I'm looking to get an extra set of rear wheels with either DRs or slicks, preferrably DRs.

Is a stock GT 17" wheel too small to be worth the trouble? I have 18x10s on the back now.

I don't want to spend alot of money on 2 wheels.

A drag radial makes a world of difference at the track if you know how to take advantage of it. I have gotten a 1.7xx 60' time on nitto DRs which are suppose to be the worst at the track with a stock parts suspension. This is on a 245-45-17 tire mounted on a 17x8, so yes, that wheel will work fine.

Drag radials are DOT approved and can be driven on the street with some common sense. Obviously, if it is raining, be extra careful or drive a different car. If it is snowing, put the DRs in the basement or garage. Myself and others drive their toys on DRs whenever they have the car out.

Honestly, if you aren't going to put alot of street miles on them, get MT et street radials. They hook alot better at the track than Nittos. I've used them both also, so I'm not basing my statement on opinion. I knocked off almost 3/10th's off my 60' when I switched to MT's. I am using a 15x8 wheel with 255/60/15's.

If you want to be super cheap, and aren't completely concerned with matching wheels, pick up some 15" V6 Mustang wheels. They are 15x7, so you don't want to go too wide on the tire, but I am running a 275/60/15 as my drag tires mounted on 15" V6 wheels and it works fine, except the tire is too tall for an all motor car, but I have a fix for that...

A 26" tire (275/50/15) would do you just fine for gears and bolt ons.

Cheap fix - relocate battery to trunk to get some weight on the rear after you install your UCA/LCA (the control arms make a big difference). If you go with Eibach drag springs or Ford C springs you will see bit of an improvement with your weight transfer, which will affect traction and 60 foot. Throwing some slicks on a set of stock 17x8 wheels will definitely help. I, and a lot of other people, daily drive with drag radials. I see you're in Florida too - nothing beats a set of drag radials when the concrete is 120 degrees like it is here in the summer.

rev-limit clutch drop with slicks is just about the funnest thing you can do in a car. MT ET street slicks last a surprisingly long time too (on the street) I got WAY more miles outta them than outta bfg dr's

I have a question, what are your 60ft times?

Haha my first time ever drag racing, 2.4 :notnice::rlaugh: I'm spinning going into second gear so I know it's not just my launch.

I wasn't expecting matching wheels, but that sounds good. I'll look for some 15's and consider the Nitto 555R 275/50/15

The set of CAs I bought weren't what I thought they were so I'm just doing lowers for now. I'm stationed in TX until September, then I'm going back to FL. I think I'm definitely gonna switch to DRs once I run down the BGF Geforces. For now though I'll more than likely get some cheap wheels with DRs.

Though about relocation, how hard is it? I kinda need my trunk space though.

Haha yeah I could imagine. However, I need my rear end and DS to last me as this is my daily driver. Are clicks putting too much stress on my stock car? DRs seem like the better way to go. A little slippage is fine, but my nearly stock GT with gears is straight up spinning 295 BFGs with plenty of tread shifting into second and usually from a 1st gear roll also.
